A new dome-shaped silo costingf NZD 50 million (€30.14 million/US$33.05 million) has been inflated on the waterfront of Auckland, New Zealand by Holcim New Zealand.

The silo, to store cement, is said to have been was set up without consulting the public, causing anger in various groups due to the increasing size of the port.

The 28m high silo is state-of-the-art and can store 30,000tonnes of cement, and is located opposite Vector Arena at a Ports of Auckland site.

In view of the slow domestic demand for cement, Semen Indonesia, Indonesia's biggest cement maker, will halt its expansion plans for 2015.

It will continue with projects that have already got off the starting block, but other projects could be delayed.

Cemex’s operations in Austria had net sales of approximately US$241 million (€216.5 million) in 2014.

Finnish company Konecranes Terex Corporation have unanimously approved a definitive agreement to combine their businesses in a merger of equals.

The combined company, to be called Konecranes Terex, will be a leading global lifting and material handling solutions company with estimated combined 2014 revenues and EBITDA of €7.5 billion/US$10 billion and €636 million/$845 million respectively.

Karsan Ramji & Sons, a Kenyan quarry operator, plans to build a cement plant with average daily output of 700tonnes and costing KES 428mn (€3.81 million/US$4.18 million) at Engashura.

The company is hoping to start building the factory in December 2015 and begin production in November 2016.

Karsan Ramji & Sons will produce cement from the plant by mixing gypsum and pozzolana from its quarries with imported clinker.

Following a decline in cement sales, the second-biggest cement producer in Indonesia, Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, has reduced its 2015 capital expenditure by 30% from IDR 5 trillion (€337.85 million/US$371.06 million) to IDR 3.5 trillion.

According to the bankruptcy administrator for the Polish quarrying company Kieleckie Kopalnie Surowcow Mineralnych (KKSM), a total of 11 offers were submitted to buy the company before the closing date of 31 July, 2015.

The Star Terminal will be bought by cement and aggregates manufacturer Holcim Philippines for PHP 410 million, while Lafarge Republic's 60% interest in LRAI will be purchased for PHP 1.588 billion.

Latvia's cement producer Cemex posted a turnover was €86.9 million for 2014, nearly unchanged year-on-year (2013: €87.08 million).

The company's net loss was €1.8 million which was due to the effect of the mandatory procurement component for electricity in Latvia, as well as interest and depreciation related to €290 million investment in the Broceni cement factory.
