MPA Cement has published its 2018 Annual Performance Report, which highlights the industry’s contribution to the UK economy in 2017. Despite a slight drop in domestic production in 2017 compared to 2016 (3.4% reduction), cement production was 9.5 million tonnes and sales were 31% higher than in 2012, showing growth since the end of the recession period.

UK construction materials giant Hanson has reached a key milestone in its contract to supply concrete to TwentyTwo, a £591 million, 278-metre tower which is set to be the tallest building in the City of London on completion next year.

The company is half way through its three-year contract to supply concrete to the project – formerly known as The Pinnacle – and has delivered over 52,000m³ of structural concrete mixes for use in the core, columns and floor slabs.

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has warned that long-term downward trends in replenishment rates mean that the supply of essential minerals in Great Britain cannot be assumed.

The warning was issued as part of the newly-published MPS 7th Annual Mineral Planning Survey (AMPS 2018) which covers the period to the end of 2017. It is based upon data for the whole of Great Britain provided in confidence by MPA members.
