UK construction equipment sales in 2022 above 2021 levels

UK retail sales of construction and earthmoving equipment continued to show very strong growth at the end of 2022. Sales in Q4 were 20% above the same quarter in 2021, and as a result, sales for the full year were 2.9% above 2021 levels, reaching 37,400 units. By exceeding 2021 levels, which were higher than the peak levels reached in 2018 and 2019, sales in 2022 were the highest since before the financial crash in 2008. As reported in previous updates, this means that last year saw equipment sales at record levels.

German construction machinery manufacturers bullish

German construction machinery manufacturers are bullish in the face of challenges. Gains in sales at the end of 2022 saw the firms increase turnover by 3% in real terms for 2022, according to figures collated by the German manufacturing association, the VDMA.
