Lafarge Canada, a member of global building materials group LafargeHolcim, has appointed David Redfern as CEO of its Eastern Canada operations.

Redfern has more than 25 years of experience in the construction materials business and was previously Lafarge’s product line general manager for Western Canada Aggregates and the Greater Vancouver area.

He joined LafargeHolcim in 1999 and has held numerous roles of increasing responsibility throughout Canada and France.

CEMEX says it is making significant progress in its divestment initiative.

Eagle Materials CEO Dave Powers is to retire as an officer of the company effective from 1 July.

Powers, 68, will remain on the board of directors at the US company which manufactures and distributes Portland cement, gypsum wallboard and recycled gypsum paperboard, concrete, sand and aggregates.

Building materials giant LafargeHolcim is taking part in the project to build Egypt’s new capital city, which is currently under construction 45 kilometres outside of Cairo.

The city - which has not yet been named and is referred to as the new administrative capital (NAC) – will become the country’s new administrative and financial centre with around 5 million inhabitants.
