Germany’s RMC market growing

Germany’s ready-mixed concrete (RMC) association Bundesverband der Deutschen Transportbetonindustrie (BTB) forecasts the production of RMC in the country will grow by just under 4% to 47.4million m² in 2014. The construction market is recovering, especially in western Germany. In 2013, the approximately 600 German producers with 1,900 stationary and mobile production units saw output fall 0.9% to 45.6million m², whereas sales revenues increased 1.1% to just over €3 billion.

MIRO, the national aggregates federation, now represents about 1,600 companies with 27,000 employees running 3,200 extraction sites, a rise from 1,300 operators with 2,100 sites. These produce, in the main, primary raw gravel and sand, of which about 253 million tonnes were produced in 2011 (the most recent figures found), and natural stone at 229 million tonnes. Germany feels drop in demand

Exports, the backbone of the German economy, have been hit hard by the recession, and in the quarrying industry there is a mixture of pessimism and optimism Germany is the largest construction market in Europe, with over half of all investments in the country flowing into such projects.
