Volvo CE’s virtual testing/simulation cuts prototype costs
Building prototype machines involves a lot of time and resources, so engineers at Volvo Construction Equipment’s Technology Function are developing new methods to increase the amount of virtual testing and simulation that can be conducted before the first prototype is built.
The company says this shortens the development cycle and ensures that when prototypes are built they are much closer to the final product, thus reducing costs.
Virtual testing and simulation is not new to Volvo CE as it has an estab
Self-unloading vessels “eco-friendly” says CSL
Transporting and handling aggregate cargo using self-unloading vessels offers significant advantages to companies seeking an environmentally-responsible shipping solution. This is the view of global company CSL, which also points to the system being “cost-effective, efficient and reliable” “From crushed limestone to sand, gravel and stone, belt self-unloading technology helps to keep costs down and minimise dust and noise,” says the company.

Recycled aggregates meet Qatar’s demand
At the 6th Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) Forum, TRL was awarded a research grant under the seventh cycle of its National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) to undertake the implementation of the innovative use of recycled aggregates in construction. Maximising the use of recycled and secondary aggregates is a priority to meet the demand for aggregates in Qatar in the years leading up to the 2022 World Cup.
This work will build on an earlier award-winning project undertaken by TRL which investigated
UK aggregates industry’s dawning optimism and confidence
The current picture in the UK aggregates industry is one of dawning optimism and confidence, overshadowed slightly by continuing problems with recovering capital, against a backdrop of dissatisfaction and unrest caused by the ongoing controversy over the Aggregates Levy. It is a cauldron of different views for such a small region, but it is nothing if not dynamic, writes Julie-Anne Ryan. The general figures speak for themselves in terms of recovery, as outlined by the Mineral Products Association (MPA).
Opportunities for quarry equipment suppliers
The recent CTT 2014 construction equipment and technology show in Moscow, Russia, again attracted over 1,000 exhibitors, with organisers making the point that a slowdown in Europe’s construction equipment market means “Russia is one of the growth engines for Europe.”
After the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, attention turns to the 2018 FIFA World Cup even as the current world football event is underway.
However, while Russia may well be a growth area for both Europe and the Asian regions, there is
Eriez HydroFloat recovers coarse particles
The Eriez flotation division has combined the advantages of traditional teeter-bed separators with the selectivity of flotation cells to develop a new separation device, the HydroFloat Separator.
The company says the primary benefit is the flotation of very coarse material (up to 6mm) that is otherwise lost using conventional methods.
The HydroFloat Separator is both a flotation device and a density separator, combining the advantages of froth flotation and gravity separation. With this technology, th

Technology helps loading operations
The first R430LC-9A crawler excavator sold in Europe has been put to work by rock crushing company Murskaus Rämö & Karén of Finland. It was sold by Suomen Telakone, the Finnish importer of Hyundai construction machinery since 1998, which is a “stone’s throw” from Murskaus Rämö & Karén, based in the town of Humppila. At 42.6tonnes, the excavator works alongside the crushers and a screener on site shovelling rock in its 2.1m³ bucket.
Atlas Copco generators in the Urals
The Russian Ural region experiences harsh weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from -40°C to +40°C.
For the Levobereznoe copper mine in the Orenburg region, Uralprom is using an Atlas Copco QAS 250 generator built into a special container to meet its rigorous power generation requirements.
The Uralprom engineering company required a 250kVA generator for the new Levobereznoe mine as developing a new open pit requires a lot of electrical power for the construction of the camp, and pump stations.

Alternative fuels and hybrid technology could offer lower operating costs
Alternative fuels and hybrid technology could create opportunities to seek out lower operating costs. We look at some of the options available to operators. Powerscreen is one of the few construction equipment companies offering a genuine dual power option on mobile equipment. Available on a range of screens, Powerscreen’s solution affords an additional electric/hydraulic drive system, which can be connected to an external electricity supply once the machine has been set up, on site, creating a zero emissio
Developments in bucket crusher and screening attachments
Investment and running costs, reliable equipment and efficient material flow are key issues in any quarrying and mining operation. And Allu Finland says that in response to these demands it has developed “a cost-effective method for processing soft rock materials.” This is done by converting existing loaders and excavators into primary and secondary crushing and screening machinery by using Allu screener crusher technology. Indeed, crushing and screening buckets are said to be among the latest innovations i
CRH “focussing now on growth going forward”
