France: Lafarge CEO heads up Medef's sustainable development division
Medef, the French employers' organisation, has appointed Bruno Lafont as president of its sustainable development division.
Lafont, CEO of Lafarge, replaces Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, chairman of Solvay's executive committee.
Lafont has chaired Medef's sustainable development commission since the end of 2013.
Finnish concrete companies develop new lighter sandwich element
Finnish concrete element manufacturer Betoniluoma; insulation company Paroc and PiiMat, a distributor for the manufacturers of coatings and building materials, have developed a facade element made of fibre-reinforced concrete.
Other manufacturers and the Finnish concrete industry have also participated in the development.
The new sandwich element is said to be much lighter than a traditional element as its outer layer has no reinforcements. The product is to be launched in the summer of 2014.
China’s cement output up 9.57% to 2.41bn tonnes in 2013
China's cement output in 2013 rose by 9.57% year-on-year to 2.41 billion tonnes, up from 2.18 billion tonnes in 2012.
Only Shanghai, Liaoning and Hebei reported negative growth with Shanghai down by 5.65%.
The cement sector posted a total profit of CNY 76.60 billion (€9.15 billion/US$12.57 billion) in 2013, up 16.4% from CNY 65.7 billion in 2012 but still down from CNY 102 billion in 2011.
Russia’s Rasnoyarskiy Cement to spend RUB 257mn equipment repair
In 2014, Rrasnoyarskiy Cement (part of SibCement group) is going to spend RUB 257 million (€5.27 million) on repair of its equipment.
The plant's cement mills will undergo major repair one by one.
When one of the mills is repaired, performance of the others will be boosted so that the plant could retain its usual volume of production. The plant's three rotary kilns will also be repaired.
Cemex to provide concrete for Hungarian Parliament building
Cemex will provide concrete that will be used on renovation works at the Parliament building in Budapest.
The company will supply 17,000m³ of a special concrete for these works.

Holcim’s annual results for 2013 show that net income increased sharply by 59% to CHF 1.6 billion (€1.3 billion); operating profit was up by a third to CHF 2.36 billion and while net sales were down 6.8% this represented a slight increase on like-for-like basis.
