Brammer to sponsor Hillhead 2014
Brammer, the UK-based supplier of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, has confirmed that it will once again sponsor Hillhead 2014, the world’s largest working quarry trade exhibition.
Brammer will sponsor the onsite Hillhead Café, as well as the shuttle buses transporting visitors to and from the event, which takes place from 24-26 June at Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry near Buxton, County Derbyshire, England.

HeidelbergCement has released its preliminary third-quarter and full-year figures for 2013.
The Q4 figures show revenue stable at €3.5 billion; like-for-like (+6.9%); operating income improved by 2.4% to €463 million like-for-like (+12.4%) and operating margin increased to 13.3% (12.9% in Q4 2012).
In France Sita develops C'Urban eco-friendly concrete
In France, the company Doublet and Suez Environnement subsidiary Sita have signed a partnership agreement to develop products using C'Urban eco-friendly concrete.
Developed as part of a research programme led by Sita, Neo-Eco Recycling and the Ecole des Mines in Douai, C'Urban is 100% made from recycled materials, including construction waste materials and river sediments. C'Urban is currently undergoing tests and is being used by Doublet to create bicycle parking.
Russia: BaselCement boosts production and revenue in 2013
Production of cement and clinker at BaselCement's plants in Russia grew 15% in 2013 as compared to 2012, to almost 1.5 million tonnes. Production of crushed stone grew 27% to 420,000m3 while production of mineral powder went up 7% to 230,000tonnes.
BaselCement's revenue grew 11% and over RUB 665 million (€14.02 million) was invested by the group in its plants' development.

Astec, an Astec Industries company, reports that it has sold the 600th warm mix system since it began producing it in 2007. The 600th system will be installed at Delta Contracting in Humboldt, Tennessee, USA.

Clay brick producer Röben-Klinkerwerke would like to open a new clay pit in Reetz since the reserves in the existing clay pit are close to being used up, and the pit is to be turned into a lake.
However, the company would like to dig clay and produce clay bricks in Reetz for at least another 20 years. The new clay pit is to have a size of 46 hectares and requires approval.
Lafarge acquires eight RMC factories from James Dick
The Canadian branch of French construction materials group Lafarge has acquired eight ready-mix concrete factories from James Dick Construction, it is reported.
The acquisition involves 30 staff and will reinforce Lafarge Canada's ready-mix concrete activities in Ontario. The eight factories are located in Alliston, Caledon, Oshawa, Bolton, Scarborough, Brampton and Hamilton and will be operated under the name James Dick Concrete.

H+H to invest RUB 18mn in upgrade of its production facilities
In 2014, H+H (subsidiary to H+H Denmark) intends to invest RUB 18 million (€380,337.45) to upgrade of its aircrete plant in the Leningrad region.
The plant's output will grow from 380,000m3 to 450,000m3. In 2013, RUB 15 million was invested in Stage 1 of the upgrade project.
The plant produced around 330,000m3 of aircrete in 2013, CEO Nadezhda Soldatkina says. Sales reached 303,000m3 (equal to the result of 2012).
Frischbeton Schwenk, Germany, to relocate Blaustein plant
Frischbeton Schwenk is planning to relocate its concrete production plant from Braunstein to the Wippingen stone quarry in Germany, of which Schwenk is the sole operator.
The company plans to invest around €4 million, and if all goes as planned Schwenk could start concrete production at the new location at the beginning of 2015.
Scottish Government to review Hyndford Quarry expansion plan
The Scottish Government has decided to call in plans to extend Hyndford Quarry in New Lanark, an area which UNESCO named as a World Heritage Site in 2001.
The plans of Cemex have already been approved by South Lanarkshire Council but have been controversial. The extended quarry would be close to the Falls of Clyde and the 19th century model village at New Lanark.
The Government will now examine the plans and decide whether or not they can go ahead.

New UK sales manager appointed by Bell Equipment
Bell Equipment UK has appointed Richard Higgott to its team as UK sales manager, filling the key role previously held by recently promoted managing director, Nick Learoyd.
Bell Equipment says he brings extensive sales management experience to his new post, having held the position of north and national sales manager at Liebherr for the past two years. Before that he held a sales role with heavy equipment manufacturer Terex.
UK study reveals low temperature asphalt “is viable alternative”
A study led by the Carbon Trust and Lafarge Tarmac has found that a low temperature asphalt (LTA) material could be used as alternative to conventional asphalt on roads. Conventional asphalt is made when aggregates and bitumen are bound together at temperatures of between 180ºC-190ºC. However, the trial found that the alternative is able to bond road materials just as effectively at lower temperatures, meaning that it uses less energy.
