Kobelco appoints Hasel İstif Makineleri as dealer in Turkey

Rygol limestone quarry, Germany, buys new Cat 740B ADT

Located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers, Regensburg is a Bavarian city in Southern Germany.
In nearby Painten, the Rygol quarry has been a family business since 1947.
After a period of rain, the surface can become waterlogged on the site, and when stockpiling clay it is often barely possible to get through.

2013: a busy time for the aggregates industry

The aggregates industry certainly looks in better shape as 2013 draws to a close than it did a couple of years ago.
So it is a good time to reflect on the last 12 months and also look forward to 2014.

Polish construction materials note price drop of 3% in Q4 2013

It has been reported that prices of construction materials in Poland noted an average fall of nearly 3% in the fourth-quarter of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012.

Prices are expected to start rising again in the second-quarter of 2014.

The construction costs of bridges and roads fell by 3.4% and 4.5% respectively, and in addition, the costs of building detached homes and flats noted respective falls of 3.3% and 2.6%.

New Moroccan cement works planned despite market conditions

Cement manufacturers are launching projects to install new cement works in Morocco despite poor market conditions.

The CEO of Ciments du Maroc, Mohamed Chaibi, believes that improvements in current demand are temporary, while Dominique Drouet, chairman of the board of directors at Holcim is reprted as anticipating a 12% drop in activity in the cement industry at the end of 2013 and expecting the decline to continue in 2014.

Lipetskcement’s cement and clinker production increases

In Russia, Lipetskcement (part of Eurocement Group) produced 1.398 million tonnes of cement and 1.046 million tonnes of clinker in 2013 (23.3% and 2.6%, respectively, up on 2012).

A total of 178,000tonnes of packaged cement was produced (+19%). Cement CEM I 42.5N accounted for 644,500tonnes (+82.5%) and 1.41 million tonnes of cement was shipped to customers (+23.7%), including 896,000tonnes shipped by train (+37.3%).

Belgium: CBR and Cimescaut settle dispute

CBR, the Belgian division of Germany's HeidelbergCement, has settled its dispute with the Belgian concrete manufacturer Cimescaut. This saw CBR buy 62.91% of the shares in Cimescaut, raising its stake from 34.2% to 96.93%. The purchased shares represent the entire stake of the Bertrand family.

HeidelbergCement said that an offer for buying the 3.07% float will also be made as soon as possible, subject to regulatory approval. CBR said that the entire transaction cost was €47.5 million.

Turkey’s natural stones export revenue increases by 17% to $981.8mn

Turkey's natural stones' export revenue increased by 17% from US$1.90 billion (€1.40 billion) to $2.2 billion in 2013, when compared to 2012.

A total of $981.8 million of this amount was made to China, which represents an increase of 25% in comparison to 2012. Turkey sold marble and travertine worth $978.88 million to China.

Global sales of mining machinery to reach $135bn

Global demand for mining machinery is forecast to expand 8.6%year through 2017 to US$135 billion (€100 billion) despite some sales weakness in the short term.

Freedonia Group analyst Matt Raskind, said: “Gains will be spurred by voracious demand for mined materials in China, India, and other developing nations as industrial output increases.”
