Quarries have few choices for hauling, but plenty of solutions

When it comes to hauling material in a quarry, be that uncrushed stone, crushed material or overburden, quarry operators don’t have that many choices.
Smaller sites or those with tough weather and ground conditions will tend towards articulated dump trucks (ADT), while those working with higher payloads, longer hauls and well maintained haul roads will prefer a rigid dump truck (RDT) fleet, writes Dan Gilkes.

Dust suppression a must for quarries

Maintaining a good site is essential in quarries

The maintenance of quarry sites and associated equipment is not only essential for health and safety but productivity as well.
Such maintenance includes regular inspection and, where necessary, the repair of fixtures such as haul roads, embankments and vehicles on site where tasks, including wheel washing, are a daily occurrence.

UK’s brickmakers face growing demand

UK brickworks are scrambling to meet growing demand amid a revival in the housing market. Many brickworks were closed or mothballed as a result of the recession but builders are now reporting shortages of bricks and say the supply problems are causing project delays.

In Spain Lafarge factory contributes €35mn to regional economy

The factory operated by cement company, Lafarge, in Villaluenga de la Sagra in Spain, contributed €35 million to the regional economy of Castilla-La Mancha in 2013, according to the factory manager, Mariano Garcia Hoyos.

FLSmidth wins cement order in Oman

AKG Gazbeton of Turkey awarded for energy saving project

Turkish construction company AKG Gazbeton has been awarded by the Ministry of Energy in the 2014 Industrial Energy Efficiency Project contest.

Russia: Prices for building materials rise in 2013

In Russia, the National Association for Pricing and Value Engineering reports the average wholesale prices for ready-mix concretes and mortars to have grown 2.9% in 2013. Prices for sand grew 7.5%, while prices for crushed rock grew 7.2%. Cement prices grew 1.5%. Walling material prices grew 10.1%. Prices for ferrous rolled building materials reduced 2.5%.
