Cemex aims to reduce company’s water footprint
Cemex has developed a methodology to standardise water measurement and management across all of the company’s operations, and starting this year it will be rolled out to all of the businesses in the countries in which Cemex operates, in order to minimise the company’s water footprint and increase its water efficiency.
The Water Project is the result of a three-year partnership between Cemex and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on the improvement and efficiency of water management
FLSmidth wins large coal project in Mozambique
FLSmidth has won a contract worth approximately DKK 658 million (€88 million) from Vale, its long-term Brazilian customer, to supply material handling and mineral processing equipment for Vale's Moatize coal mine in the Tete Province of Mozambique. The material handling equipment to be supplied includes a crushing plant as well as in-plant and stockyard conveyors. The crushing plant consists of a tip bin, feeders, primary, secondary and tertiary sizers as well as supporting steel structures and auxiliaries.
Mario Gasparri to head new EMEA region post for CNH Construction Equipment

Cemex to supply concrete for Meudon-la-Foret Cultural Centre, France
Cemex has been awarded the contract to supply concrete for the construction of the future Meudon-la-Foret Cultural Centre, in Meudon, northern France. The firm will mix white cement (70%) with limestone (30%), together with 1kg of special pigment. This, it is claimed, will evoke buildings constructed from Ile-de-France limestone, as requested by local residents. The Meudon-la-Foret Cultural Centre was designed by architect David Serero.
VSH of Slovakia acquired by Holcim Slovensko
Holcim Slovensko, the Slovakia-based producer of construction materials and cement, has acquired Slovak construction materials company Vychodoslovenske Stavebne Hmoty (VSH). Thanks to this acquisition VSH’s new owner, part of Swiss firm Holcim, has over 1,000 employees in Slovakia and operates a large network of gravel and concrete companies nationwide. Polish cement production and sales down in 2012
Polish cement production and sales reportedly fell by 16% and 14.7% respectively in 2012. There was said to have been 15.626 million tonnes of cement produced in Poland last year, with sales volume for 2012 recorded at 15.825 million tonnes. The country’s cement exports were down by 22.3% to 0.315 million tonnes, while imports fell by 29.1% to 0.393 million tonnes. Weir Minerals has been selected to supply pumps and equipment for a new processing plant in Garpenberg, Sweden. The new plant is being built by Swedish mining company Boliden and is a replacement for an existing facility, an upgrade that will double capacity from 1.3 to 2.5 million tonnes of metal ores per year. Cemex concrete for German underwater tunnel
Cemex is part of a consortium supplying ready-mix concrete for the construction of the Neuhof road tunnel, which include around 15,000m³ of underwater concrete placement. Tablet to cure concrete micro-cracking
Dutch researchers have produced tablets that help concrete repair itself. A self-healing concrete that can patch up cracks by itself is being tested outdoors, say researchers at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands.
