The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) has announced that asphalt paving of national roads and county roads in the country’s Eastern Region has begun. In all, 850 kilometres of national and county roads in Østfold, Oslo, Akershus, Hedmark and Oppland will be paved with asphalt in the summer of 2015. The Irish international building materials group, CRH, says it expects further progress in the second half of 2015, with group EBITDA from continuing operations in H2 expected to be ahead of 2014.
The group, which will report its interim results for the six months ending 30 June 2015 on 27 August, revealed this in an interim management statement for the period 1 January 2015 to 30 April 2015. Its annual meeting is in Dublin tomorrow (Thursday).

Thailand-based asphalt manufacturer Tipco Asphalt is anticipating an increase in asphalt demand from construction companies between April and August 2015 due to the government's acceleration in plans for the construction of new roads and repairing of old ones across Thailand.

The government is yet to disburse about THB 70 billion (€1.99 billion/US$2.15 billion) of the earlier road-building budget and has reserved another THB 40 billion (€1.13 billion/$1.23 billion) in 2015.

Indonesian state-owned construction firm Waskita Karya will seek a bank loan of US$338 million for its work on the Pejagan-Pemalang toll project in central Java island. The project is being managed by Pejagan Pemalang Toll Road, a subsidiary of Waskita Karya.

Waskita company secretary Antonius Yulianto Nugroho said the firm has enough cash resources to cover a quarter of its financial commitment on the project and is targeting bank loans to cover the other 75%.

Lafarge and Holcim have received clearance from the European Commission for their proposed multi-billion euro merger.

According to insiders, the merger of Swiss cement group Holcim and French industrial company Lafarge will probably be approved by the European Commission.

However, it is reported that it could be possible that the companies will have to sell one or two parts.

Holcim and Lafarge have already put some divisions up for sale in different countries amounting to several millions of Euro.
