Eagle Materials delays its aggregates business split as COVID-19 virus crisis continues

US building materials group Eagle Materials has announced, in a statement released to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) this week, that it is delaying the separation of its aggregates division.

The company says: “Today’s market conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have affected the company’s previously announced timeline to separate its heavy (cement, aggregates and concrete) and light-side (gypsum wallboard and paperboard) businesses.”

Winnipeg plans new aggregates mix to increase the durability of its roads

The City of Winnipeg has changed its road construction guidelines in a move that will affect the types of aggregate used in its pavement foundations.

According to a report out this week on the Journal of Commerce website, the changes are expected to extend the lifespan of new streets in the Manitoba capital.

The JoC report says that councillor Matt Allard, chairman of Winnipeg’s Infrastructure and Public Works Committee, wants to see the city’s road construction materials specs updated and aligned with those of other jurisdictions.

Indian cement makers ACC, Ambuja Cement, ICC, India Cements, JK Cement and JK Lakshmi Cement yesterday (20 April) restarted manufacturing activity, in a phased approach complying with the government's social distancing standard operating procedure (SOP).

CEMEX reduces directors' pay due to Covid-19

Mexican cement giant CEMEX is to cut senior executives salaries by 25% for a period of 90 days in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With effect from 1 May 2020, the CEMEX pay cut includes the managing director, the board of directors, and the executive board.

The firm has also cancelled an operation to repurchase its own shares.

Also, the senior management team has also decided to voluntarily have their salaries reduced by 15% while the remaining staff will have their salaries reduced by 10%.

Building materials provider Titan Cement Group increased its revenue by 8% in 2019 to €1,609.8m and EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation) by 2.8% to €267.1m.
