Sandvik Construction has staged its first ever customer day in Georgia.
Elite Motors, Sandvik Construction’s authorised agent in Georgia, hosted the landmark event, attracting more than 60 representatives from the government, universities, local and international companies.

CNH Industrial to transfer production of graders to Lecce from Berlin
CNH Industrial, home to the Case Construction Equipment brand, is to transfer production of its grader product line from Berlin, Germany to Lecce, Italy. Part of the on-going CNH Industrial Efficiency Program, the transfer concerns European manufacturing of graders, and wheeled machines for levelling ground.
Russia’s concrete products output down 16.4%
In January-September 2015, the concrete products output decreased by 16.4% to 16.90 million m³, compared with the similar period of 2014. The most of the products were produced by the Moscow and Moscow region-based plants: 1.13 million m³ and 1.08 million m³, respectively. The Dagestan Republic (North Caucasus) was the leader in the growth rates (+50,000m³).
Saudi Arabia’s cement consumption up 8% in January-October 2015
Saudi Arabia's cement consumption in January-October 2015 grew 8% to 50.2 million tonnes, according to a report by Aljazira Capital.
Cement dispatches in October 2015 totalled 5.13 million tonnes, for a growth of 18.2% sequentially and 26.2% year-on-year.
Further modest growth is expected in the short term as the construction market picks up after a labour shortage in 2014 and with new housing projects and continued government spending on infrastructure.

Lumbres cement factory’s name change Eqiom
As part of the merger of Lafarge and Holcim, Holcim France, of which the cement plant in Lumbres was a part, was divided into Eqiom, now owned by Irish group CRH, and Holcim Haut-Rhin, which remains part of Lafarge.
CRH will retain the existing logo but adopt the brand Eqiom for the Lumbres plant.
There are as yet no plans for change at the Lumbres plant, which employs 125 staff.
Norway: carbon capture study at Norcem
Norwegian government-owned carbon capture and storage company Gassnova, and Norwegian manufacturer of cement Norcem, have entered into an agreement concerning a study about carbon capture that will be undertaken at Norcem's facility in Brevik.
The study will use technology developed by Norwegian oil company Aker Solutions. Gassnova will finance the study.

Morocco’s CIMAR sees turnover increase
In the third quarter 2015, Moroccan cement company Ciments du Maroc (CIMAR), which is owned by Italcementi Group, reported a 1.8% increase in turnover to MAD 823mn (€76.5 million/US$82.38 million), compared with the same period a year earlier.
This performance can be attributed to a 39.4% increase in sales of ready-to-use concrete and a 21.1% increase in aggregates. Cement prices were also up.
Crimean Ministry invites bids for limestone, sand, clay deposits
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Crimea has called for bids for the right to explore and mine minerals.

Russia sends crushed stone by rail
In Russia between January-September 2015, the volume of crushed stone supplies by railway exceeded 97.34 million tonnes (-21.8% in Q1-Q3 2014; -28.3% in Q1-Q3 2013).
The upward trend in consumption of crushed stone delivered by railway was registered only in far east of the country at 5% to 2.8 million tonnes. UK: Petry to become CEO of Aggregates Industries
From 1 December 2015, the current general manager of Holcim Romania, Francois Petry, will become the CEO of Aggregates Industries, LafargeHolcim's British division.
Petry worked for the cement manufacturer since 2014 and has previously managed the company's division in France.
Holcim Romania owns two factories, has up to 800 members of staff, while in 2014 it reported sales of around €217 million and a profit of €16 million.
CRH sales rise to €19.9bn in first nine months
CRH says that sales from continuing operations rose 16% to €15.5 billion in the nine months to the end of September.
The Irish building materials group said in an interim statement, following its acquisition of Lafarge and Holcim assets (as part of the LafargeHolcim merger), that third-quarter sales were up 14% versus the same period a year earlier. This was boosted by a positive impact from the group’s Americas business, where sales rose 23% in the July-September period.

Lafarge Cementos starts public offer for Heracles Cement shares
Lafarge Cementos has opened the public offer to Heracles Cement's shareholders for acquiring Heracles’ common nominal voting shares for €1.23 (US$1.31) a share, in cash.
Heracles is a Greek cement, concrete and aggregates company.
The offer, which was submitted for approval on 30 July, 2015, has been cleared by the Greek Capital Market Commission.

Jane Whittle, who has been working for Iveco (part of CNH Industrial) as operational marketing manager for the past two and half years has now joined the Case team.

Breedon to acquire Hope Construction Materials Limited for £336mn
Breedon has entered into a conditional agreement with Cortolina Investments to acquire Hope Construction Materials Limited for £336 million (€480 million).
The combination of Breedon and Hope will create the UK’s leading independent producer of cement, concrete and aggregates and a vertically-integrated building materials group.
The acquisition is conditional upon the approval of the UK Competition and Markets Authority and is expected to complete in Q2 2016

UK researchers to trial 'self-healing' concrete
Self-healing concrete is being trialled by a group of researchers from Bath, Cambridge and Cardiff universities in the UK.
The Materials for Life project is investigating three self-healing technologies that could eventually be individually or collectively incorporated into concrete as it is made.
It is claimed that self-healing concrete could significantly reduce the annual bill for repairing concrete buildings and structures.

Indonesia: Unit of Wika Beton to be set up
A unit of Wijaya Karya Beton (Wika Beton) will be set up in Indonesia.
Of the some IDR 528 billion (€35.97 million/US$38.74 million) capital expenditure by the company, part of it would be used by Wika Beton for the new unit’s capital.
According to Entus Asnawi Muhson, the company’s finance director, a decision on the new subsidiary islikely to be made in early 2016,

Russia: LafargeHolcim launches new cement base
The Kolo milliona-based (the Moscow region) LafargeHolcim plant has begun production of the new cement base for mortars under the Kelma brand.
It is said to be characterised by high strength, fine adhesion to surfaces, and a long retention of mobility that provides for the mortar's plasticity necessary for construction works without adding extra water.
The product is being sold in 50kg bags.
Algeria’s construction material imports down
Algerian construction material imports have receded by 27.4% in value to US$1.9 billion (€1.77 billion) and by 4.8% in volume to 8.39 million tonnes in the first three-quarters of 2015 compared to the same 2014 period, thus suggesting that the decrease is more due to a fall in prices rather than a genuine drop in imports.
Cement imports have fallen by 21.41% in value to $352.32 million, while they have only dipped by 2.11% in volume to 4.8 million tonnes.

According to Oficemen figures, cement consumption in Spain fell 2.4% to 1,025,120 tonnes during October 2015.
Consumption in the first ten months of the year rose 4.3% to 9,564,783 tonnes.
Russia’s Basecement plants’ cement/clinker output
The Baselcement holding company's plants produced about 1.9 million tonnes of cement and clinker in January-September 2015, 12% down, compared with the similar period of 2014.
Almost 1.2 million tonnes of cement (+26%) was produced at Serebryansky Cement Plant in nine months.
Achinsk Cement doubled its high-grade cement supplies (PC 500-D0 and CEM I 42.5B) to 120,000tonnes. The plant increased the commercial clinker supplies 3.5-fold.
