Kenya’s ARM Cement to raise $105mn from selling bonds

ARM Cement of Kenya is planning to raise up to US$105 million (€97.50 million) by selling five-year bonds to private investors, and it will use proceeds to repay short-term debts.

The bond will have fixed and floating rates and issued in both US dollar and Kenya Shillings.

The company will not list the bonds on Nairobi Securities Exchange and it will initially target to raise US$90 million and raise another US$15 million if the bonds were oversubscribed.

Uzbekistan: Dal Engineering Group/Almalyk MMC to build cement plant

The Turkey-based consortium Dal Engineering Group and the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Company (MMC) has signed an agreement on construction of a cement plant in the Surxondaryo region.

According to preliminary information, its capacity will total up to 1.5 million tonnes of Portland cement/year.

Ukraine crushed stone to Russia

The Ukraine-based companies Malo-Kokhnovsky Karier and Bekhovsky Granitny Karier have been licensed for crushed stone imports in Russia and have resumed their deliveries.

A total of 12,700tonnes was supplied as of mid-November. The Belgorod region (the Central FD) accounted for 93.4% and Moscow for 6.6% of the supplies.

Crimea to activate crushed stone prospecting

The Crimean government has recommended geologists to activate the crushed stone prospecting works on the territory of the republic.

According to head of the republican Ministry of Ecology Gennady Narayev, crushed stone that is now being mined is unsuitable for use in the full cycle of road construction.

Cement revenues increase to €1bn at Titan

Titan Cement of Greece has seen its revenues rise 18.9% to €1.03 billion from January to September, 2015, as compared to the same period in 2014.

Meanwhile, Titan also posted a 12.6% rise in its EBITDA, to €165.2 million, and a net profit of €36.2 million, from €30.5 million profit the previous year.

Dangote Cement launches largest promotion

Nigeria-based Dangote Cement has launched its largest promotion in Nigeria.

The cement producers will give NGN 300 million (€1.4 million/US$1.51 million) cash to its customers in the latest promotion.

For 90 days, 180 lucky winners will win two prizes of NGN 1 million every day, and one lucky winner will win NGN 30 million every month.

Nigeria’s Ibeto to build $386 million cement plant

The Ibeto Cement Company has signed a contract worth US$386 million with Sinoma International Engineering for a major cement project in Nigeria.

Sinoma, China National Materials Company’s Shanghai-listed subsidiary, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Sinoma Engineering Design & Research Institute and is contracted for a 6,000tonnes/day clinker line and 45MW self-generation power plant.

Buzzi Unicem posts €120.3 million net profit

Buzzi Unicem, the Italian building materials manufacturer, posted a 5.2% year-on-year increase in its revenues to almost €2 billion (US$2.15 billion) in the first nine months of 2015.

Net profit reached €120.3 million from €55.4 million, while sales of clinker and cement rose 1.3% to €19.2 million, performing particularly well in Czech Republic, Poland, US and Russia.

At the same time, sales of packaged concrete dropped 2.3% to 8.9 million m³.

Indonesia’s cement industry to see higher demand until end-2015

The national infrastructure development is believed to have boosted cement sales in Indonesia since August 2015.

Out of the overall bulk cement sale, some 50% is for national infrastructure development, according to Semen Indonesia's managing director Suparn, who also believes that until the end of 2015 the cement sale increase is set to be between 2% and 3% year-on-year.

Jordan: Northern Cement results

Jordan-listed Northern Cement Company has registered a 24.15% drop in its profits in the January to June 2015 period to JOD 7.42 million (€9.74 million/US$10.48 million).

The cement company has recorded a 22.7% decline in its profit in the January to September 2015 period from JOD 14.1 million in the same period in 2014, to JOD 10.9 million.

Lafarge invests €600.000 at Bouc Bel Air

Lafarge has invested €600,000 (US$646,128.59) replacing the hoop of its furnace at its cement factory in Bouc Bel Air, southern France.

The hoop, which weighs on average 70tonnes, is a central mechanical part of the oven, allowing the cooking of material coming from the quarry.

It is changed on average every 60 years. The work was carried out by Cofely Endel of the GDF Suez group, and required around 30 employees and the furnace to be shut down for three weeks.

Holcim Vietnam merges with Lafarge Vietnam

Following the merger between their respective parent organisations, cement manufacturers Holcim Vietnam and Lafarge Vietnam have merged, with the transaction set to complete in 2015.

The arrangement will help LafargeHolcim to optimise the production with respect to oversupply- a challenge currently encountered by many local cement producers.

Hive of activity at Bramhope Quarry

There's been a buzz around Mone Brothers' Blackhill Quarry site in Bramhope, County West Yorkshire, northern England, in recent months with over 75,000 workers delivering the sweet taste of honey.

Calor powers up UK’s first LNG-fuelled asphalt plant

Aggregate Industries’ Colemans Quarry site has become the first asphalt plant in the UK , and the second in the world, to make the switch to liquefied natural gas (LNG), cutting both costs and carbon emissions with the help of Calor.

Hitachi appoints new dealer in Czech Republic and Slovakia

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) (HCME) has appointed new dealers for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

NET is to be the exclusive distributor of its construction equipment in the Czech Republic, while EURO stroj Slovaki, based in Bratislava, will cover that country.

Caterpillar warns Chinese demand for excavators will not hit 2010-12 peaks

Caterpillar warns it does not expect Chinese demand for excavators to recover to the peaks of 2010-12, reports the UK’s Financial Times newspaper.

Tom Pellette, group president for construction industry equipment, made the remarks as the Chinese economy recorded its slowest growth rate since 2009 in the third quarter, due to declining construction and factory activity, which many economists do not believe has bottomed out yet.
