HeidelbergCement’s 3% revenue rise to €3.61bn in Q3 2015

HeidelbergCement's revenue rose by 3% to €3.61 billion in the third quarter of 2015.

The weakening of the Euro against numerous currencies had a €162m positive effect on the company’s revenue. Operating income before depreciation improved by 8% to €865 million and operating income rose by 8% to €675 million.

Egypt’s Suez Cement made net loss of US$6.23mn in Q3 2015

Egypt's Suez Cement, the country's largest listed cement maker by market value, said it made a net loss of US$6.23 million (EGP 50 million) in Q3 2015, compared with a net profit of $6.45 million (EGP 52 million) a year earlier, Reuters reports.

Revenue fell to $146.15 million (EGP 1.177 billion) in the three months ending September 30 from $179.06 million (EGP 1.442 billion), it said.

Production starts at Ghana’s Western Diamond Cement Company

Ghana-based Western Diamond Cement Company has started cement production in the country’s western region. The company says its high-quality product will give a choice to developers and builders in the construction sector. Martin Marietta Materials’ profits soar July-September 2015 to US$117.5mn

Martin Marietta Materials, the US-based heavy construction materials firm, posted US$117.5mn profit in July-September 2015, a marked upturn against a $53.7 million profit the previous year. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company’s revenue in the three-month period stood at $1.08 billion, up 7.9%, while sales in its aggregates business increased from $917.9 million to $1 billion. Lithuanian construction materials firm Eternit Baltic begins fibre cement factory build

Eternit Baltic, a Lithuanian construction materials producer, has begun the construction of its new fibre cement factory in the northern Lithuanian town of Naujoji Akmene. The factory, which will employ at least 50 people in three years, will produce fibre cement weatherboards. Eternit Baltic was formerly a subsidiary of Belgium's Etex Group.

Portugal’s Semapa posts exports of €1.17 billion in first nine months of 2015

The Portuguese holding company Semapa, whose commercial interests include the cement sector, recorded exports of €1.17 billion in the first nine months of 2015, accounting for 74.5% of its turnover which stood at €1.57 billion - an increase of 6% compared to the same period of 2014. The company’s ebitda, which consolidates the business of Secil and Supremo (cement), Portucel (paper) and ETSA (environment), increased by 21% to €361.1 million. Profits dropped by 17.7% to €65.9 million.

A new Cemex wharf has been officially opened in Dagenham, Southeast England, providing the closest aggregate production north of the river to central London. Vulcan Materials third quarter income at US$123.8 million

US-based construction materials firm Vulcan Materials has reported third-quarter net income of US$123.8 million. The Birmingham, Alabama-based company had net income of 91 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 95 cents per share. The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 95 cents per share.

Euro Auctions has more than 350 used construction equipment lots up for grabs at Brisbane auction

Euro Auctions was today putting up more than 350 lots of used construction equipment at its latest on-site and online auction in Brisbane, Australia.

Large and mini excavators, wheeled loaders, dozers, dump trucks and motor graders were among models up for grabs during the event at a site off Main Beach Road, in the eastern Brisbane suburb of Pinkenba. Hope Construction Materials-DB Schenker Rail UK sign aggregates and cement transport contract

Hope Construction Materials and DB Schenker Rail UK have laid firm foundations for their future partnership by signing a five-year contract for the transport of aggregates from Hope’s Dowlow quarry near Buxton, county Derbyshire to ten locations across Britain.

The two companies celebrated by further cementing their relationship when DB Schenker Rail UK’s Class 60 locomotive (60044) was named Dowlow, in honour of Hope’s Dowlow site.

Terex’s MJ47 Modular Plant makes Hanson Tasmanian quarry debut

Terex has successfully installed its first MJ47 Modular Plant at the Hanson Flagstaff Gully Quarry in Lindisfarne, Tasmania. The module included hopper wings, extended hopper and discharge conveyor and a rock breaker structure with walkways. The entire Module was said to be easily transported in 40 shipping containers direct to site, where a small three-man team from Terex Jaques, assembled the modular station on-site over a three-week period.

Bruno Garabos new UMPI union president

Bruno Garabos, CEO of gypsum company Garabos Frères, has become the new French gypsum and insulation trades union UMPI president.

He replaces Philippe Caillol, while Patrick Laye, head of the gypsum company, is his vice-president.

It is reported that Garabos aims to check the downward spiral of the quality of products and pull prices up as they have gone down by 5% to 10%.
