Martin Friedl appointed vice president Central Europe
Martin Friedl has been appointed Sandvik Construction’s vice president sales area Central Europe, succeeding Hans Schuller who left Sandvik in June for new challenges outside the company.
Friedl will take on this new role in addition to his current one as sales area manager for Russia.
Sandvik Construction saiys its sales area Central Europe represents a large opportunity for the company due in no small part to the upturn of the German market, and the potential of the Eastern European markets.

Global attachment specialist Miller UK has officially opened its new Southern facility near London
The facility, at Newcastle House, Oliver Close, Grays, which stands on a 0.4 hectare site, will service a large portion of the Miller customer base in London and south-east England, and will be a service centre for the company’s new breaker line, which was launched at the recent Hillhead show.

Morocco’s gloomy outlook for cement sector for 2014
According to the most recent analysis of the cement sector by Bourse Msin, 2014 will probably be a third consecutive year of a decline in sales.
In the year to the end of August 2014, sales fell 4.98% in volume terms to 9.3 million tonnes. The drop in sales is due to a drop in demand for housing and construction, which consumes 80% of production.
The drop in demand for property is due to rising prices, banks who do not want to lend, and increased prices for construction materials.

Spanish cement consumption falls to 7.1 million tonnes up to August 2014
According to Oficemen figures, cement consumption in Spain fell 2% to 7.1 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2014. In August alone, consumption fell 3% to 819,249 tonnes.
New regulations rolled out to lift Iran's cement exports to Iraq
The Iraq's Trade Ministry has agreed on new regulations that increase the volume of Iran's cement exports to Iraq.
For the period between 21 March 2014 and 21 August 2014, more than 8 million tonnes of cement were exported by Iran to Iraq.
Under the new rules, each Iranian cement company is now allowed to export 15,000tonnes/year cement into Iraq from the Mehran, Chazzabeh and Shalamcheh border terminals.
New Norwegian asphalt type for heavy transport
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) is in process of developing a new type of asphalt with more fine stone that better endures heavy transport.
It is said that the size of the stone used can be reduced to 8mm, compared 16mm which is the maximum size in many asphalts used today. This can also help reduce the particle levels that are released into the atmosphere.

Spain’s construction materials market revenue volume down 2.9% in 2013
Spain's main construction materials manufacturers experienced a 2.9% reduction in revenue volume during 2013, according to the latest Annual Construction Report from Alimarket.
Although it is at a slower rate, the reduction represents another year of decrease for the Spanish materials industry.
It is hoped that 2014 will finally mark a turning point.
Together, the 700 companies included in the report had sales of €57.27 billion (US$74.21 billion).

Indonesia’s Wika Beton pays US$23.5 million to take over CLT
According to the Company Secretary of Wijaya Beton (Wika Beton), Puji Haryadi, the construction company has paid US$23.5 million (€18.14 million) to take over 90% of shares in Citra Lautan Teduh (CLT).
CLT produces pre-tensioned spun concrete pile sold under the Tekcon brand and has an output capacity of 100,000tonnes/year.
The acquisition of the company in Batam will help Wika Beton to expand its business and increase its output capacity as well as marketing area.
Chettinad Cement, India, to invest over INR 37.5bn for project plans
Chettinad Cement Corporation will invest a total of more than INR 37.50 billion (€478.62 million/US$614.98 million) for project plans in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The projects will be funded via a combination of debt and internal accruals.
The company will be investing INR 11 billion for a 3.5 million tonne integrated cement plant in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

In Indonesia's East Java, a new cement factory will be built by Indocement Tunggal Prakasa in 2015.
The company expects the new factory to be operational by 2018.
The factory will be able to produce as much as 2.5 million tonnes a year from 2015 to 2016.
Lafarge supplies aggregates for restoration of White Rock Line art work
Lafarge's Tour Blanche (Bourg-des-Maisons) site, France, has supplied 18tonnes of white aggregates for the restoration of sculptor Richard Long's White Rock Line art work as part of the 2014 edition of the European Heritage Days event.
The art work is installed in Bordeaux's CAPC Musée d'art Contemporain.
Following its restoration, White Rock Line will be inaugurated on 20 and 21 September 2014, during the European Heritage Day event.

French prefabricated concrete specialist Rector Lesage (owner of the LB7, Fabre and Rector brands) has won the Grand Est des Chênes regional award.
The company, which is one of the leading European suppliers of prestressed concrete and reinforced concrete floor elements, is also present in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Belgium.

Israel’s Nesher decides to lower prices by 2%
Israel-based cement monopoly Nesher has decided to lower its prices by 2%, with immediate effect.
Reducing price is the initial part of a plan that requires the company to have its Har Tuv facility sold.
According to the Economy and Finance Ministries of Israel the move will significantly expedite the government's plan to have the market opened to competition.

Mexican cement company Cemex has bought back all 2018 and 2020 bonds worth US$592.52 million (€461.14 million) and US$365.15 million, respectively. The former were issued by Cemex and the latter by Cemex Espana.
12% dip in Pakistan’s Maple Leaf Cement 2013-14 earnings
Pakistan's Maple Leaf Cement reported a 12% fall in net profit to PKR 2.80 billion (€21.11 million/US$27.28 million) in the 2013-14 financial year.
While revenue rose 9% to PKR 18.9 billion with retention prices growing 11%, gross margins slid 1 percentage point to 34%. Pretax profit was actually still up 14% to PKR 3.6 billion, but the company incurred a 17% alternate corporate tax. Positively, finance costs dropped 14% to PKR 3.6 billion.
Semen Indonesia to invest IDR 1.2tn to set up new plant
According to the President of Semen Indonesia, Dwi Soetjipto, the cement company plans to invest IDR 1.20 trillion (€78.01 million US$100.23 million) to set up a new cement plant in Jayapura, Papua.
The cement demand for Papua-Maluku is projected to reach 1.5 million tonnes/year.
Demand for cement in Papua during the first eight months of 2014 was at 787,000tonnes. The new plant will have a capacity of between 600,000tonnes-1 million tonnes/year.
