Bulgaria’s Devnya Cement's new plant is rolled out with €160million investment
Devnya Cement, the Bulgarian subsidiary of Italian cement manufacturer Italcementi, has launched a new production facility.
The operation requested an investment of over €160 million (US$204.87 million), improving the capacity of the plant to 1.5million tonnes/year.
The unit will be fully operational at the beginning of 2015. With this operation the group completes the strategic investment programme to strengthen its activity in Europe.
Egypt: NCCD decides to construct cement plant
Following the high price of cement produced locally, National Company for Construction and Development (NCCD) of Egypt has decided to construct a cement plant in Egypt. NCCD is now analysing the best timing for the proposed plant.
As reported by Al Mal News, the new plant will cover the cement requirements for the units of NCCD. NCCD has 20 units that include nine general contractors.
UAE: Everest Industries planning to build fibre cement plant
Everest Industries of India is planning to build a plant in the UAE with capacity to produce around 72,000-tonnes of fibre cement a year.
The company has received approval of board of directors for the project and it will set up the factory through its subsidiary in Mauritius.
Fibre cement is known for its durability and they are mainly used in facade and roofing products.
CECE welcomes stronger European construction sector
The Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) has welcomed “robust” European market sales growth of 10.2% in H1 2014, compared to the first half of last year.
The release of the latest figures, which coincides with the CECE Congress 2014 in Antwerp,
follows other figures showing how sales were strong in Q1 2014 compared to the first three months of 2013.

Weir to acquire Trio in US$220mn deal
Weir Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Trio Engineered Products, a Chinese-American manufacturer of crushing and separation equipment for the mining and aggregates markets, for US$220 million.
The acquisition will, in part, allow Weir Minerals, part of Weir Group, to sell its aggregates and sand product range through Trio’s well established sales channels in North America and China. The sand and aggregate markets accounted for 56% of Trio revenues in 2013.

The six-blade configurations on the new Caterpillar 824K wheeled dozer allow it to be customised for production dozing, stockpile dozing or site clean-up work.

Breedon plans £21mn acquisition of Barr Quarries in south-west Scotland
Breedon Aggregates, the UK’s largest independent aggregates business, has agreed terms with Barr Holdings to acquire Barr Quarries, the market-leader in aggregates in south-west Scotland, for £20.8 million (€26.3 million) in cash.
Barr Quarries employs approximately 130 people and is headquartered near Cumnock, 35 miles (56km) south of Glasgow. It operates 11 quarries, five asphalt plants and six ready-mixed concrete plants extending from Dalry in the north to Stranraer in the south and east to Moffat.

Indonesia’s pre-cast concrete sales set to rise
The Government of Indonesia’s impressive mega infrastructure plans are set to see a rise in pre-cast concrete sales within the country’s overall concrete sales.
Pre-cast concrete sales accounted for 14% (5.2 million tonnes) of the 37.1 million tonnes of total concrete cement sales in Indonesia during H1 2014, according to Association of Pre-cast and Pre-stressed Professionals' secretary general Hari Nugraha Nurjaman, based on data from the Ministry of Public Works.

Cemex, the Mexican cement giant, and Irish building materials group CRH are reportedly working together on a potential bid for Lafarge and Holcim assets worth between €3.95 billion and €6.98 billion.

Morocco: Msin gives outlook for cement market
According to brokerage company Msin, sales of cement rose 26.5% in August 2014, after seven months of declining sales.
In the first eight months sales fell 5% year-on-year to 9.3 million tonnes.
While the government talks about a recovery, specialists believe a recovery will take another few years.
Msin forecasts a drop of 4.1% in 2014, followed by an increase of 2% in 2015 and a drop of 1% in 2016.
It forecasts average annual growth of 0.39%, from 14.2 million tonnes in 2014 to 15.5 million ton
Pakistan dispatches 3.15mn tonnes of cement in September
In Pakistan, a total of 3.15 million tonnes of cement were dispatched in September 2014, an increase by 7.08% from 2.94 million tonnes in the the same month in 2013.
During the month 2.42 million tonnes of cement were dispatched to domestic markets, a 13.86% growth from 2.12 million tonnes in September 2013.
Exports dropped 10.6% year-over-year from 816,000tonnes to 730,000tonnes in the month under review.
Suez Cement to invest EGP 500mn
Some EGP 500 million (€55.87 million/US$69.91 million) will be spent by cement maker Suez Cement to improve its environmental mitigation plan at Tourah Factory 2 in Egypt.
According to Al Mal News, Suez Cement will be shutting down Tourah Factory 1, which failed to comply to the environmental standards.

France: residents concerned by quarry project in Brueil-en-Vexin
Residents and local officials in Brueil-en-Vexin are concerned by a project by Calcia (Italcementi) to create a quarry in the Vexin regional nature park.
The quarry would produce 700,000tonnes of limestone/year and would require the construction of an access route for trucks.
Calcia has reportedly told locals that the nearby Gargenville cement factory requires these new resources to continue operating.
