Indonesia: Vanguard plans to set up cement plant with $490mn investment
US-based mining company Vanguard Mining intends to set up a cement plant in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara.
This was disclosed by the Indonesian Cement Association's chairman, Widodo Santoso. Vanguard is to invest an estimated US$490 million/€387.49 million) in the project, which will be carried out in several stages.
The cement plant will have 2 million tonnes in annual capacity.
Sorong, Indonesia cement plant planned by Semen Tonasa
In Sorong of Indonesia's West Papua, a cement plant called Unit VI will be constructed by Semen Tonasa.
A total of IDR 3 trillion (€195.14 million/US$246.77 million) will be invested into the project.
Semen Tonasa was a unit of Semen Indonesia, and the plant will be Sement Tonasa's first plant in the province.
Russian auction for 15% in Uraltranstrom attracts no bidders
An auction for sale of a 14.99% state in the charter capital of Uraltranstrom (Yekaterinburg, Urals), manufacturer of reinforced concrete and aggregates, has produced no bids.
The starting price was set at RUB 39.24 million (€781,146.61 USD 987,809.73).
France: Eurovia closes La Meilleraie-Tillay quarry over asbestos fears
French road materials producer Eurovia has provisionally closed its La Meilleraie-Tillay aggregate quarry.
This follows a geological analysis by the BRGM geological and mining research office that is said to have shown traces of actinolite dust which exceeded the limit for occupational exposure for asbestos. This dust can contain natural asbestos fibres.
However, other measurements carried out have detected the presence of asbestos at levels which are lower than the limit.

UK’s Hopkins Concrete orders 50 Mercedes-Benz Arocs units
In the UK, Hopkins Concrete is to replace its existing fleet of 60 trucks with 50 new Mercedes-Benz Arocs units.
The order is the single largest to date for the Mercedes truck, and comprises 25 8x4 rigids; 25 3240B models and five 2545 tractor units.
Hopkins said it hopes to cut its fuel bill with the new models.

Seychelles: 4,000tonne cement silo developed by Dynamic, Lafarge
A 4,000-tonne cement silo is being developed in the Seychelles by Sri Lanka-based Dynamic Technologies (Dynamic) and Lafarge Mahaweli Cement.
The project is the seventh international venture to be jointly developed by the two companies. Lafarge Mahaweli Cement is part of the Lafarge Group.
Russia: Eurocement shuts down Savinsky Cement Plant
The Eurocement Group is reported to have closed down Savinsky Cement Plant in the Arkhangelsk region (North-West) for modernisation until 2018.
Employees of the factory are afraid the production will be eliminated with voluntary resignation offered by the management of the plant said to be the reason for the rumour.
The Savinsky cement plant produced 207,000tonnes of cement in January-August 2014, down 57% compared with the same period of 2013.
Turkey: OYAK will acquire Denizli Cimento
Turkish cement company Oyak Cimento, part of conglomerate Oyak, has applied to the Competition Board (RK) to acquire fellow company Denizli Cimento.
Denizli Cimento is owned by CRH Group of Ireland and Turkish firm Eren Grubu.
An announcement was made in August 2014 to state that Turkish conglomerates Limak Holding and Sabanci Holding were also interested in the acquisition.
France: CEO of Lafarge discusses merger and Syrian plant
It is reported that in an interview with Les Echos, Bruno Lafont, the CEO of French construction materials group Lafarge, has said that the proposed merger with Swiss group Holcim is not a defensive move but rather an anticipatory one.
He added that the company will be better equipped to restart research efforts in a bid to speed up development, having already obtained four or five authorisations from the competition authority.

Finnish Destamatic is developing new recycled products together with the Lappeenranta University of Technology, such as wood-plastic and wood-cement made with the Destaclean concept.

The value of imports of construction materials to Algeria increased year-on-year by 7% in the first eight months of 2014 to US$2.25 billion from $2.11 billion in 2013.
In terms of volume, the amount of material imported by the North African nation increased 13.7% to 7.1 million tonnes. Imports of concrete reinforcing bars accounted for the largest segment in terms of value (worth $1.2 billion - a 3.3% drop), with volume remaining the same at 2.01 million tonnes.
