Northern Ireland-based Powerscreen has added to a number of new product launches in recent months with the unveiling of a new mobile screen. "The Warrior 2400 builds on the global success of the Warrior 1400 and Warrior 1800, representing the next step in the evolution of heavy duty track mobile screeners," said Powerscreen global director of sales Pat Brian. "The new larger Warrior 2400 extends our range of heavy duty screeners, to meet the needs of larger end users and operators in the quarrying, mining a
Concrete plants improve mix quality
Manufcaturers are increasingly offering plants with new levels of sophistication to produce consistent, high quality concrete mixes reports Patrick Smith. Concrete plant manufacturers are responding to the trend towards ever more sophisticated recipes with equipment that offers new levels of sophistication. Over the last few years, producers have developed equipment, such as computer controls units and other components, that can deliver a huge variety of consistent mix recipes, and store the data required t
Lokotrack LT110C joins Metso range
Metso Minerals has added to compact crushing range with the launch of the Lokotrack LT110C jaw crusher. According to Metso, the new 58tonne machine is designed for primary crushing work with a rugged design but its compact size makes it easier to transport. Powered by a low-emission 310 kW Cat C13 diesel engine, the LT110C is 15.6m long, 3.0m wide and 3.85m high when being transported.
Estonian aggregates deal awarded
Estonia’s state-owned rail operator EVR Infra has appointed three aggregates producers to supply 180,000tonnes of crushed stone needed for repairs to the track bed on the Tallinn to Tartu railway line.
On-board weighing increases productivity
The weight of material loaded into haul trucks has a direct impact on not just production but also on performance of equipment. Under load a truck and production does not reach its full potential, but overload it and you risk excessive wear and increase the risk of accidents.
Asphalt industry reduces emissions
The asphalt industry is responding with innovative solutions to the call for reductions in emissions. Patrick Smith reports. The current economic climate and the push to reduce all types of emissions while increasing the use of recycled materials have put pressure on industry to come up with answers. Asphalt production is no exception, and it is tackling these issues vigorously with innovative solutions, including the increasing use of warm asphalt mixes in Europe (a trend that is now catching on in the USA
Q1 sales up at Cemex
Improvements in the European market have helped Cemex to record a rise in sales in the first quarter of 2011 over the same period last year.
On-board weighing offers more than load data
The latest on-board weighing systems are providing quarry operators with more than just loading information. Claire Symes reports. At one time weighing in quarries was limited to weighbridge operations in the loadout area but now a wide variety of dynamic and static weighing systems are available. These make it possible to carry out weighing at almost any stage of the production process and integration of this into management systems is adding real value for quarry operators.
CRH reports positive start
CRH has reported a positive start to the year and is forecasting like for like sales and EBITDA to be ahead of 2010 levels.
Clean act
While Hurricane Katrina may be long gone, the repairs to flood defences around New Orleans in the US goes on and a mobile Hercules trammel screen is helping to meet the demand for aggregates for the work. A Stelex Construction Equipment manufactured HT182M is working in a quarry in Little Rock, Arkansas to process up to 500tonnes per hour for the work.
Wheeled loader developments improve production
Wheeled loaders are often the quarry workhorse when it comes to loading. ABE takes a look at the developments that are helping to improve efficiency. Whether it is loading at the extraction face, moving stockpiles or loading delivery trucks or trains, wheeled loaders are a vital part of a productive quarry and probably one of the most heavily used items of equipment. This central role means that quarry operators are looking to get more uptime and greater efficiency from their new and existing fleets than ev
Wheeled loader or excavator for face digging
Loading from the face is a key task but which is better - the wheeled loader or excavator? With the increased focus on cost per tonne and drive for increased efficiency in quarries these days, getting the right loading and hauling equipment in place is essential. But there are a number of different options available to quarry operators when it comes to how the blasted rock is loaded.
Wheeled solution
Demand for a mobile vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher in Sweden has driven one quarry operator to customise equipment themselves.
Recycling challenge
While mobile crushers are designed to work in harsh conditions, it is the customers that really put the equipment through its paces day after day. Nonetheless, Rockster was surprised by the capability of the R1100 one of its German customers proved recently on a recycling project - crushing porcelain and glass. The customer was not only using the 32tonne machine to crush old toilets and glass but it was also performing well at this task.
Holcim's double digit aggregates gain
Holcim has reported strong growth in its aggregates business in the first quarter of 2011 with volumes up 16.3% to 34.3million tonnes, however raw materials and energy prices impacted on profitability.
Health and safety initiatives continue to cut accidents
Reducing accidents is important but being able to demonstrate the improvement with accurate statistics is also essential. Health and safety initiatives in European quarries have helped to significantly drive down the rate of accidents in the industry over the last decade. But it is only possible to spot this downward trend because of improved record keeping that has allowed data from different companies to be compared.

Higher demand in emerging and developed markets has been cited as the driver behind Lafarge’s 9% increase in sales in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period last year.
Moroccan highway calls for aggregate production
Construction of a new highway across Morocco is placing high demands for aggregates along the route and Agregat Oued Cherrat is work to supply the project. Government investment in a modern motorway network in Morocco means the country is a hive of activity with around 1000km of route planned for construction in the next five years. The schemes have attracted contractors from around the world but the aggregates for the work are being sourced more locally.
