Africa: Italcementi entrusts development to Ciments du Maroc
At a meeting in Casablanca, Morocco, Italian cement company Italcementi Group announced that its upcoming developments in Africa would be implemented by its subsidiary Ciments du Maroc.
The latter will create a joint venture to manage the new business with its main shareholders and partners, Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG) and Caisse interprofessionnelle marocaine de retraites (CIMR).
Morocco: Addoha plans debt reduction and opens new cement plant
CEO of Moroccan property developer Addoha, Anas Sefrioui is reported as having denied rumours that he is in any way standing down from his position.
He pointed out that his company is the only one which manages to produce 25,000 homes per year.
The group wants to reduce its gearing ratio from 80% to 33%, reducing its debt which stood at MAD 9.32bn (€873.94 million/US$930.50 million) at the end of 2014.
Saudi Cement’s January-March 2015 profit
Saudi Arabia's cement company, Saudi Cement has garnered SAR 303 million (€76.41 million US$80.79 million) in net profits in the January-March 2015 quarter, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.9% from SAR 286 million registered in the preceding year.
The increase in profitability is attributed to the higher earnings generated from export sales.
Oman Cement garners OMR 15.94mn in revenues in Q1 2015
Oman's cement manufacturing company, Oman Cement has garnered OMR 15.94 million (€38.91 million/US$41.42 million) in revenues in the January-March 2015 period, noting a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.
Its net profit also followed similar upward trend during the quarter under review, with an increase of 3.7% to reach OMR 3.83 million.
Pakistan’s Attock Cement sees nine-month revenue/profit increases
The revenue of Attock Cement amounted to PKR 9.79 billion (€90.39 million/US$96.24 million) between July 2014 and March 2015, up 7% year-on-year, while net profit rose 17% to PKR 1.64 billion.
Company revenues posted a 7% quarter-on-quarter growth to PKR 3.42 billion in January-March 2015, while earnings rose 12% to PKR 619 million. Other income also saw a 109% on-year growth to PKR 129 million in the first three months of 2015 due to short-term investments and higher cash balance.

ACC Cement’s revenue and profit sink for quarter
India-based ACC Cement saw its revenue sink to INR 28.85bn (€434.85 million/US$463 million) in quarter ended 31 March, 2015, down from revenue clocked in quarter ended 31 march 2014 which was INR 29.67 billion.
Consequently, the company also experienced a 41% slump in its profit for quarter ended 31 March 2015.
As such, the profit went down to INR 2.36 billion from INR 3.99 billion previously. Drops in the figures were highly attributed to declining sales with only 5.82 million tonnes of cement sold

Shantui supplies Zambian National Service
After what was described as months of intense bidding and negotiations, Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Shantui has wrapped up a deal with the Zambian National Service to supply it with over US$4 million worth of equipment.

ContiTech increases sales 1.3% in 2014 to €3.9 billion
Quarry conveyor belt solution and automotive supplier ContiTech, part of the Continental Corporation, increased its sales by around €50 million to €3.9 billion in 2014 – achieving growth of 1.3%.

US cement consumption growth will continue in 2014, says PCA
US cement consumption will continue its growth trend in 2015 according to the Portland Cement Association (PCA).
Total cement consumption will increase by 7.5% from last year, and continue to grow in 2016 by 7.9% said Edward J Sullivan, PCA’s chief economist, at the association's Spring Meeting.
"The forecast indicates that the healing in the US economy has taken place," Sullivan said. "Industry projections continue to be in line with generally improving economic construction fundamentals."

Lafarge and Holcim will need between 12 and 18 months to complete the integration of the two cement groups following the closure of their merger deal, according to the future head of the combined company Eric Olsen.
Lafarge chief executive Bruno Lafont added that the companies still expected to finalise the transaction in July, likely on July 15.
