Deutz announces financial results for the first quarter of 2015
Engine manufacturer Deutz has notched up a five-fold increase in operating profit according to its interim report for the first quarter of 2015.
The company says that business performance is in line with expectations and that there has been a decline in unit sales and revenue due to effects of advance production of engines in the prior-year period.
The new orders received by the Deutz Group during the reporting period totalled €321.0 million, which was down by 22.5% year-on-year (Q1 2014: €414.2 million).
Holcim and Lafarge obtain merger clearances in the United States and Canada
Lafarge and Holcim have received final approval for their proposed merger from the competition authorities in the United States and Canada.
All competition approvals necessary for closing the transaction have now been obtained ahead of the expected closing in July 2015.

China cement industry profits down 67.6% in Q1 2015
China’s cement industry profits fell by 67.6% in Q1 2015 compared to the same period of 2014 US$520.88 million (CNY 3.23 billion), while total sales value fell by a far more modest 6.86% to $28.98 billion (CNY 177.2 billion). Further figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that the Chinese cement industry’s profit margin fell by 3.42% to 1.82%.

Positive UK mineral products sales volumes suggest construction activity remains buoyant
UK sales volumes of aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt improved again in the first quarter of 2015, says the Mineral Products Association (MPA).
Seasonally adjusted results, which provide a consistent quarter by quarter comparison, indicated that crushed rock and sand and gravel sales volumes rose by 2.2% and 3.6% respectively compared to Q4 2014, and ready-mixed concrete and asphalt sales were 1.3% and 1.2% up. Swiss cement maker Holcim has revealed that its Q1 2015 net profit almost quadrupled after the sale of its minority stake in Siam City Cement.
The sector giant, which is in the process of merging with France's Lafarge, revealed earlier today that its first-quarter net profit jumped to €295.7 million (CHF 310 million) from €76.3 million (CHF 80 million) in the same period last year.
