France’s Imerys completes €500mn bond issue
French industrial minerals specialist Imerys has completed a €500 million bond issue due to mature in December 2024 with an annual coupon of 2%, as well as a €100 million tap at 2.5% which is due to mature in November 2020.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe, located in Geel, Belgium has a new chief executive, J.C. Jung, who fills the shoes of the former CEO and recently promoted S.G. Rhee, who will return to Hyundai Heavy Industries Korea.
Mr Jung was formerly global sales director Forklifts in Korea, and began his career as an industrial engineer at Hyundai, following ten years with the company. He then moved to the sales department where he has been responsible for sales of construction equipment and forklifts.

Lafarge cement plant in Ashaka, Nigeria, attacked by Boko Haram
Following a previous attack in November 2014, French construction group Lafarge's cement plant in Ashaka was subject to a new attack by Islamist group Boko Haram on 4 December 2014, according to witnesses.
The militants are thought to have stolen vehicles before being pushed back by Nigerian military forces.
A spokesperson for Lafarge did not confirm the attack but said that there had been 'trouble' in the vicinity of the plant and that there were no victims or damage caused.
European Commission probably approves merger of Holcim and Lafarge
According to insiders, the merger of Swiss cement group Holcim and French industrial company Lafarge will probably be approved by the European Commission.
However, it is reported that it could be possible that the companies will have to sell one or two parts.
Holcim and Lafarge have already put some divisions up for sale in different countries amounting to several millions of Euro.

The Vietnam Building Material Association (VBMA) says energy-efficient technologies must be used by foreign investors. Hanson Cement doubles workforce at Wales plant
Hanson Cement has doubled the workforce at its cement plant in north Wales to around 100, compared with just 50 during the recession.
An investment of €1.5 million in a new packaging line is underway, while plans to further increase output and bring a mothballed rail link back into service are said by the firm to be under consideration.
Hanson said it is benefiting from the ‘booming’ UK housing and construction sectors. The plant at Padeswood employed more than 180 workers at its peak.
Somali militants kill Kenya quarry workers
Somali al Shabaab militants killed at least 36 non-Muslim workers at a quarry in northeast Kenya, beheading at least two of them in the same area that they hijacked a bus and killed 28 passengers last month.

Vietnam’s clinker, cement use to rise in 2015
It is projected that Vietnam clinker and cement consumption will reach 71 million – 73 million tonnes in 2015, a climb of 4% to 7% on the forecasted 2014 figure. Of the 73 million tonnes, around 52 million-53 million tonnes is expected to be used nationally with the remainder exported. It is estimated that Vietnamese cement consumption will reach 68 million tonnes in 2014, a climb of 3% from a year ago.

China cement output up in 2014
National Development and Reform Commission of China statistics show that cement inventory of major cement enterprises in the country by the end of October 2014 totalled 18.33 million tonnes, up 15.3% compared to the same period of 2013. In the ten months to 31 October 2014, cement production hit 2.05 billion tonnes, up by 2.5%.
