Metso equipment for the Galvani Group, Brazil

Metso will supply grinding and bulk materials handling equipment for Galvani Group, a Brazilian family-owned company operating in mining, fertilisers and construction segments. Volvo receives Quality Innovation of the Year Award

Volvo Construction Equipment has collected the Quality Innovation of the Year Award, won for its business model which enables the company’s technology to be transferred to third party products. A business model from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) designed to allow third party manufacturers to utilise the company’s state-of-the-art technology “wowed judges” at the Swedish Institute for Quality (SIQ) with its specialist approach.

Italcementi’s 92% drop in net profit

Italian cement maker Italcementi has posted a 92% drop in its total nine-month net profit, as sales were hit by a downturn in the mature west European markets and higher competition in North Africa. The drop in sales was only in part offset by a strong rise in Asia, while business in North America was stable, the company said in a statement. Cemex’s issued with Croatian permit

The Croatian Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection has reported that it has issued a permit to Cemex to use biomass and wood waste in its plants. The permit has been issued on a temporary basis although the Ministry assessed that the use will not bring any negative effects. Cemex's President, Trpimir Renic, said that the company will secure strict implementation of regulated measures on citizens health and environmental protection.

Lafarge results show “positive trends”

Lafarge says that positive trends continue with its third quarter results which show sales up 4% to €4.393 billion; EBITDA up 6% to €1,071 billion and current operating income up 9% to €815 million. Holcim looks at disposals as Europe market falters

Holcim, the world’s largest cement maker, is considering disposals as chief executive officer Bernard Fontana deals with a greater-than-expected slowdown in Europe. The group, based in Jona, Switzerland, may also consider swapping some assets with competitors given market conditions, Fontana said in an interview. “There are things cooking,” Fontana told journalists at a press conference in Zurich. Any transactions would have to be announced at the “right time,” he said.

Tarmac rolls out the RED dryer

Tarmac has increased its capacity to process recycled asphalt planings (RAP) by investing in a new, state-of-the-art RAP Ecological Dryer (RED dryer), one of only four units in the UK currently.
