Vicat posts turnover of €1.13bn in H1 2012
For the first half of 2012, Vicat posted turnover down 1.5% to €1.13 billion. Ebitda fell 20.8% to €201 million after a slight increase in the second quarter of 2012. Group net profit dropped 43.8% to €51 million. This was partially due to poor weather conditions affecting profitability and to political unrest in Egypt.
Metso acquiring ore technology from Jacobs
Metso’s Mining and Construction segment is buying technology and know-how from Jacobs Engineering Group for its Straight Grate Iron Ore Pelletising technology. In addition, key Jacobs technical staff related to the technology will become Metso employees as part of the deal. The purchase price will not be disclosed.

The Cyprus-based company Momenal Management has acquired 78.63% in the Crimea, Ukraine-based Saksky Building Materials Plant, with anti-monopoly authorities issuing the permit. The plant, belonging to Vadim Novatsky's Smart-Holding, manufactures limestone, sand and face stone. In 2011, the plant gained UAH €448,089 in the net income. Dyckerhoff sales increase in H1/2012
Dyckerhoff, the German construction material producer which is controlled by Italy's Buzzi Unichem, confirmed that both sales revenues and earnings are to remain unchanged in 2012 compared to 2011.
In the first half of 2012, Dyckerhoff saw a slight increase in sales revenues to €752 million, driven by higher prices and consolidation and currency effects.
TCK predicts results for 2012
Bosnia's unit of the multi-national cement, aggregates and concrete producer, HeidelbergCement, Tvornica Cementa Kakanj (TCK), has reported that its sales of cement is expected to decreased between 10-14% in 2012, mainly due to crisis in the Eurozone and unfavourable market conditions. In 2012, its sales are expected to reach €32.72 million.
UK aggregates markets going into reverse
Despite a slight improvement in 2010 and 2011, UK aggregates markets are going lower in the current year.
Last year, the production of sand and gravel and crushed rock was around 160 million tonnes. In 2012, production is likely to fall to around 145 million tonnes. This is a level not seen since the early 1960s, says industry marketing consultant, BDS Marketing Research, which reckons this is just half that the market achieved at the height of the boom in 1989.
