FLSmidth wins large copper order in South America
FLSmidth has been awarded a contract worth approximately US$115 million (€88 million) to supply engineering, design and equipment for a copper mine in South America. The order is part of a major expansion of the mine and the scope of supply includes one primary crusher, multiple apron feeders, vibrating screens, SAG mills, ball mills, pebble crushers, pressure filters, concentrate and tailings thickeners as well as 300m3 flotation cells and additional cells for the molybdenum plant.
Lafarge concrete for Louvre expansion
A new cutting-edge architectural structure is to open to the public after five years of construction work.
Designed to showcase the museum’s treasures of Islamic art, the new project is located in the Visconti courtyard, at the centre of the Louvre, Paris. Lafarge has worked in close partnership with the architects to supply “the most appropriate materials for the structure,” hailed as the most significant museum expansion project since the Louvre’s great Pyramid.
Middleton Aggregates buys five Volvo machines
Kings Lynn, eastern England- based Middleton Aggregates has taken a package of five machines from Volvo Construction Equipment for its contracting and hire fleet. The five machines are part of a natural replacement programme and include a 16tonne EW160D wheeled excavator with two-piece boom; an ECR145D short radius crawler excavator; an EC28 (2.8tonnes); an ECR58 (short radius 5.8tonnes) and a DD24 tandem roller.
Finning’s specialist Eco-Drive training programme for waste
Finning UK has launched an Eco-Drive training programme for the waste sector, aiming to help waste managers and equipment operators reduce plant costs by up to 10%. The new Eco-Drive programme is designed to identify opportunities to tackle waste and improve performance, while reducing fuel, maintenance and component costs. It follows on from the successful Finning Eco-Drive training programme, which was launched in 2009 and has seen over 1,700 participants take part.
CW Group’s global cement outlook for 2012
In its mid-2012 update of global cement volumes, the CW Group lowers its global outlook to 5.3% and 5.8% for 2012 and 2013, respectively. The mix of regional growth patterns changes with material upgrades and downgrades.

RWM “success” for Glen Creston
The recent Recycling Waste Management (RWM) exhibition held in Birmingham, England, proved “a big success” for size reduction equipment manufacturer and supplier Glen Creston. The UK’s Mineral Products Association (MPA) has welcomed the new approach to industrial strategy announced by Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Secretary of State Vince Cable. The Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia (ACMPE) forecasts that construction material trade volume will reach €370 million in 2012 with exports to increase 9% year on year to €155 million, a record figure. In the construction boom year of 2008, members of ACMPE posted combined exports of €151.4 million.
Dyckerhoff’s new material plant plan
Dyckerhoff is planning to invest several million euros in a new construction material production plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes a year in the quarry at Amöneburg, Germany. The plant is to produce construction material that Dyckerhoff does not yet produce in Amöneburg.
Volvo becomes major Deutz shareholder
Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer AB Volvo has increased its shareholding in Deutz from 6.7% to just over 25%. Following an announcement in June 2012, Volvo has acquired 22,117,693 shares from long-standing majority shareholder Same Deutz-Fahr for approximately €130 million. As a result of the transaction, Volvo now has a shareholding of 25% plus one share, making it the largest Deutz shareholder.
Fergusson: largest 966K fleet
Fergusson Group, the Scottish-based solid fuel import, export and distribution business, has created the largest Cat 966K wheeled loader fleet in the UK, with six units. In a supply agreement deal with Finning UK and Ireland, breaking the £2 million (€2.5 million) barrier, the group also added a Cat 725 ADT; Cat 320DL excavator and Cat 226b skid-steer loader to its fleet.
Bathgate’s Volvo continues trend
A brand new Volvo L150G loading shovel has been delivered to Bathgate Silica Sand, Arclid, County Cheshire, England, to take over as the prime mover at the company’s soil and sand mixing plant. The 25tonne loading shovel continues a trend at Bathgate Silica Sand, replacing an L180C that had clocked up 22,000 hours and it joins two L220 models that are engaged in primary extraction in Bathgate’s sand quarry.

Belgium: Etex raises €400mn
The Belgian-headquartered construction material producer Etex has raised €400 million through a new bond issue, the maximum amount it intended to raise. The money will be used, either in part or in its entirety, to help pay a loan of €450 million, which was taken out for the purchase of the plasterboard division of the French group Lafarge.
Azerbaijan agreement for cement project
China's CBMI Construction Co and Azerbaijan-based company Akkord have signed an agreement for a €158.34 million cement project in Azerbaijan. The contract covers design, construction, installation and commissioning works and equipment procurement for a 3 million tonnes/year cement and 5,000tonnes/day clinker production line.
Hillhead “a big success”
A total of 17,083 visitors attended Hillhead 2012 compared to 15,558 in 2010. Event director Jack Berridge said: “Despite the challenges facing the construction supply chain in the UK, the show was over 10% bigger than two years ago and once again we have managed to get through without any significant personal injuries, which means we have now gone 13 years without a reportable incident at the show.”
