Weighing system aids monitoring loading and hauling operations
New Zealand-based Actronic Technologies launched a new version of its Loadrite management system at this year's Intermat. According to Actronic, the latest update of the Loadout Management System provides users with greater visibility of the aggregate loading operations. That's exactly what the Loadout Management System is designed to do in real-time," said Lo
Pump upgrade
Grindex has unveiled its upgraded drainage pump range and the company claims that the new design triples the durability of the units. The added service life comes from increased wear resistance in the impellor which has been achieved by preventing abrasive particles from reaching the vulnerable parts of the pump. The newly designed hydraulics section with its closed impeller dramatically reduces the performance drop caused by long-term wear, according to Grindex. Maintenance on the units has been improved w
Conveyor maintenance
Horizon Conveyors' latest development offers safer and easier access during maintenance of conveyor rollers. According to Horizon, development of the new RapidWinch system followed on from talking to a number of maintenance engineers about the limitations of existing techniques. "Belt lifters have traditionally adopted a lifting beam design to raise the conveyor belt, but these systems can be cumbersome and time consuming to set up if needed for changing a single roller or accessing a tight space," said Hor
Locking in performance
Secure bucket tooth connections are essential in the aggregates industry to avoid them becoming detached and getting caught in the crusher. The latest development from Esco promises to not only improve maintenance but also reduce the risk of lost teeth and fixings. The Ultralok tooth system has a hammerless lock that is integrated into the point, which increases the security, and is designed to eliminate the need for separate pins or locks. As well as the new design for the lock, the rest of the tooth shape
Performance drilling
Atlas Copco's latest ROC L8RC drill rigs are designed to offer high performance multipurpose drilling for mining and large scale quarrying operations. The new range can be used to accurately drill production blast holes, pre-split holes, buffer holes or dewatering points. The ROC L8 is available with either a 25 or 30bar high pressure compressor to give efficient in pit grade control or shallow exploration drilling using reverse circulation. But the rigs can also be quickly converted to use down the hole ha
Alternative power
Volvo has developed an innovative hybrid wheel loader prototype, which was on display at ConExpo, and demonstrates the results of company's ongoing alternative power research.
The diesel-electric hybrid drive system has been fitted to one of its proven L220F wheel loaders as a rolling test machine to demonstrate the benefits of this technology in terms of fuel savings and reduced exhaust emissions.
This is the first prototype in Volvo's ongoing development programme and initial tests it can deliver su
Loading solution
Telestack's latest development brings mobile technology to the truck unloading conveyor market. The company developed the system specifically for an iron ore mining site in Goa, India but believe that it could offer significant benefits to the quarrying market worldwide. "Truck unloading systems do already exist but the one we have developed for Fomento is different in the fact that it is a fully mobile unit," said Telestack international sales manager Phillip Wardell. "The tracked unit can be moved in 10 t
Record hammer from Indeco

The unit measures 4.6m long, fe
First tracked VSI unveiled
Metso Minerals has unveiled its first vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher mounted on a tracked unit at ConExpo. The new Lokotrack LT7150 is built around the Barmac B-series VSI unit and is designed to provide high quality final stage crushing with good cubicity on the move. "Sand is a key product worldwide but with natural sand deposits becoming depleted, more and more customers are turning to manufactured sand products, so the demand for VSI crushers is growing," said Metso general manager Jason Talbot. "B
Heavy weight ambitions
With plans for a 52tonne excavator, JCB has ambitions to move into the quarrying sector. Dan Gilkes reports JCB is strengthening its range of JS Auto tracked excavators and signalling an intention to move up the weight class, into heavy earthmoving and aggregates extraction. The company is launching two additional mid-weight excavators and previewed a concept of what promises to be its biggest machine to date at the ConExpo show in Las Vegas in March. The 29tonne JS290 Auto and the 36tonne JS360 Auto will b
