Hewitt Robins’ screen replacement
Hewitt Robins has completed a turnkey project to replace a Niagara screen at Lafarge Whisby, County Lincolnshire, eastern England within a four-week timescale. The existing Niagara screen was non-repairable, so delivery of a new screen in the shortest timescale was critical. The new Hewitt Robins V-13 1.8 x 6.0 double- deck replacement screen was designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned in four weeks, allowing Whisby to stop production while the machine was being built.

Heijmans to sell activities to Bitter Beton-Systeme
Dutch construction company Heijmans has announced plans to sell its prefabrication activities, formerly known as Bestcon, to German prefabricated concrete company Bitter Beton-Systeme. Heijmans expects to record a small book loss on the transaction. The sale agreement is to include a multi-year operating partnership.
Asphalt coating additive plant for west Russia
The Voronezh Mineral Dust Plant is building a facility producing mineral dust for asphalt coating in the Novaya Usman district of Voronezh, western Russia. The new facility linked to the existing dust plant, owned by Elitstroy construction company boss Eduard Krasnov, will total produce up to 20,000 tonnes of mineral dust per month. The Voronezh region will use 40-50% of the output.
Holcim España undergoes restructure after 63% sales fall
Holcim España is overhauling its organisational and industrial structure after seeing sales plummet by 63% (56million tonnes to 20.2million tonnes) between 2007 and 2011. In the first four months of 2012, sales have dropped a further 40%. Portland Valderrivas expects to report profits from 2013
Spanish cement firm Cementos Portland Valderrivas is expecting to go back to black from 2013, thanks to the implementation of its Plan NewVal. The company expects to generate extra revenue by adjusting production capacity in Spain and optimising costs in the US, creating a forecast ebitda of €200million for 2012-13. Cement sales in Spain totalled 20.4million tonnes in 2011 and are expected to drop below 16million tonnes in 2012.

Green light for Hitachi paint process
Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe)/(HCME) has implemented a process to reduce chemical waste from the painting process at its factory in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Developed in cooperation with Advantage Chemicals, the process will save an estimated €60,000 per year on labour and energy costs, as well as disposal costs for waste water and sludge.
Before the new system was introduced in December 2011, the painting process produced approximately 260tonnes of waste/year. It used a classic sinking system
