Indian plant’s Liebherr crane

A huge crane, working in a cement plant in Chattisgarh, India, has been turning in impressive statistics.

The Bhoir Group’s Liebherr LR 1300, the 300tonne crawler-crane manufactured by Liebherr-Werk Nenzing, Austria, created a breakthrough by lifting 8.3tonnes with an 86m main boom and 89m luffing jib and derrick with 50tonnes of suspended counterweight. The lift was carried out at a radius of 53m and the load was placed at a height of 118m.

Atlas Copco has introduced a range of eight drum cutter attachments to its range of Construction Tools. The DC drum cutter range is available with service weights from 200kg-2,900kg, and is suitable for carriers of 1-50tonnes.

Volvo Penta is introducing new 5litre and 8litre engines that meet Tier 2/Stage II, Tier 3/Stage IIIA equivalent and Tier 4 Final/Stage IV emissions standards.

Putzmeister equipment aids record concrete pour in USA

Construction of the new 73-storey, 335m tall new Wilshire Grand mixed-use building for owner/developer Korean Air in Los Angeles, USA, started in February 2014 and has already claimed the world’s largest continuous concrete pour.

Ghana to get $83mn cement factory in Terna industrial city

Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF), a Moroccan construction company, will construct a US$83.2 million cement factory in Tema, Ghana’s industrial city.

This follows an agreement signed between the company and the Ghanaian government.

On completion, the factory will have the capacity to produce 1 million tonnes of cement annually, according to CIMAF Ghana, a parent company of the Moroccan construction giant.

Steel-Kamet delivers concrete plant to Saudi Arabia

Finnish Steel-Kamet, a developer of concrete production systems, has sold a concrete plant to Saudi-Arabia.

It is the company's sixth concrete plant for the same customer, one of the largest manufacturers of concrete elements in Saudi Arabia.

Steel-Kamet has net sales of €12 million and exports account for half.

According to the company, the value of one concrete plant delivery is about €1 million.

The company is preparing for a delivery to Kazan in Russia.

Vietnam’s cement output hits 11.58mn tonnes in Q1 2014

According to the Price Management Department in Vietnam, cement output grew by 9.8% year-on-year to 11.58 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2014.

Demand rose by 6.7% to 10.23 million tonnes. Also, demand increased by 69.5% month-on-month to 1.92 million tonnes in March 2014.

Cement production expanded by 63.7% to 5.19 million tonnes.

Spanish cement consumption down 2.2% in Q1

Consumption of cement in Spain dropped 2.2% in the first quarter of 2014, which is a much softer fall than in previous months.

Weather conditions having been more favourable than normal and no notable festivals were celebrated during the period.

In 2013, Easter fell in March, which caused a holiday stoppage for works.

In France, Connan has launched Copanel fibre cement cladding made from natural mineral materials.

Breathable and waterproof, the cladding is resistant to frost, pollution and mould.

US investors own 71.7% of Cemex shares

Bloomberg has revealed that US investors have obtained 71.7% of shares in Mexican cement company Cemex on Mexico's Stock Exchange (BMV) during the last three years, including BlackRock (at 10.78%), followed by Southeastern Asset Management (4.34%), amongt others, mostly because of financial restructuring at Cemex.

According to Actinver (finacial group), the proportion of free-float Cemex shares is 90%. Another analyst has commented on the growing demand amongst US investment funds for Cemex shares.
