Kirchdorfer and Asamer form new used tyre firm KIAS
Austrian cement manufacturing company Kirchdorfer is forming a new used tyre company named KIAS with Austrian construction materials maker Asamer.
A subsidiary of Asamer has been operating a used tyre processing plant in Ohlsdorf, Austria, since 2002. This is to be merged equally with Kirchdorfer to form the new joint venture company KIAS, which will be managed by Kirchdorfer on an operational level.
MPA launches new National Nature Park
The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has launched its new National Nature Park in the UK, a nationwide network of quarries that have been restored for wildlife and which are accessible to the public.
The online resource includes 50 sites around the country totalling 4,000 hectares, with a range of facilities including nature trails, viewing hides and visitor centres.
Metso to supply processing equipment to Aguas Teñidas
Metso will supply crushing, screening, grinding and filtration equipment to Aguas Teñidas Mine, part of Trafigura Mining Group, in south-west Spain. The delivery will be completed during the second quarter of 2014.
The 2.2 million tonnes per year underground mine and concentrator produces copper, zinc and lead concentrates, also containing limited amounts of gold and silver.
Titan of Greece reduces borrowing by almost 50%
Titan Cement of Greece has managed to establish strong foundations for its future growth during the years of recession devastating the local economy, according to the company’s officials.
Reports say that Titan has reduced its borrowing by almost 50%; its fixed costs by 16% and its costs of sales and administrative by 22%, while increasing its production capacity by about 20%.
Spain’s Nefinsa posts losses of €89mn in 2012
In 2012, the Spanish corporate holding Nefinsa, which owns construction materials company Uralita and airline Air Nostrum, posted losses of €89 million, which were added to the €57 million losses that the company had posted a year before. Subsidiary Uralita, with losses of €43 million in 2012, was responsible for most of the holding's debt but losses of Air Nostrum were also high at €41 million.
HeidelbergCement India saw loss in Q3 2013
HeidelbergCement India, a unit of Germany-based HeidelbergCement, has posted a loss of INR 283.50 million (€3.41million) between July and September, 2013, overturning the net profit of INR 75 million it reported for the same quarter in 2012.
Total income was INR 3.02 billion, higher than INR 2.56 billion in 2012, but so were total expenses, which were heavier with INR 3.14 billion noted, up from INR 2.43 billion in the September quarter in 2012.

MPA Cycle Safe campaign reaches Cambridge students in City of Cycling
The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has run a successful Cycle Safe event at Cambridge University Freshers’ Fair, England, with support from Hanson UK.
The event formed part of MPA’s national Cycle Safe campaign to prevent collisions between cyclists and trucks, and it highlighted to students and members of the public where to position themselves safely on the roads in relation to large goods vehicles (LGVs).
Russia: Mordovcement ups cement and clinker production
Russian company Mordovcement produced 3.18 million tonnes of clinker and 3.84 million tonnes of cement in January-September 2013, the figures up 1.9% and 4.4% year-on-year respectively.
Some 3.91 million tonnes of cement was delivered to the company's clients (up 5.6%), with bagged cement shipments up 2.3% to 864,500 tonnes.
In Morocco Holcim posts 18.7% drop in turnover in H1 2013
The Moroccan division of Swiss building materials company Holcim is reported to have generated turnover of MAD 1.5 billion (€133.87 million) in the first half of 2013, down 18.7% year-on-year.
Overall cement consumption was down 12.6% over the same period, and EBITDA was established at MAD 695.50mn (€62.07 million), down 21.2%.
Estonia: Tref, SL Asfaltti apply remix technology in road renovation
In Estonia, the road building company TREF and the Finnish SL Asfaltti have applied the hot remixing road renovation technology in the resurfacing of the Ussisoo road link of the Tallinn-Tartu highway.
The hot remixing is an environmentally friendly and economical road rehabilitation technology to repair top layers of the asphalt structure, first introduced in Estonia by Lemminkäinen in the resurfacing of the Pärnamäe Road in Tallinn in 2010.
France: Roger Martin/Eiffage invest €3mn in coating plant
French firms Roger Martin and Eiffage Travaux Publics, which respectively control a 51% and 39% stake in Valse, have invested €3 million in a new coating plant at the Champdôtre site close to Auxonne, Côte-d'Or. The new plant, which replaces the previous outdated equipment, will have a capacity of 300 tonnes per hour.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has announced that Omagh, Northern Ireland-based engineering company Telestack is undertaking a £3.1 million (€3.65 million) expansion, creating 40 new skilled jobs.
Telestack specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of a range of mobile bulk material handling systems which are sold globally via a network of dealers and agents.
Moroccan cement sales down 8.2% at end September 2013
According to the Moroccan housing ministry, cement consumption grew close to 8% in September 2013.
However, cement sales were down 8.2% to 11.3 million tonnes over the ten months to the end of September.

Cemex has supplied more than 10,000m³ of special concrete to construct the foundations and architectonic structure of the new Hotel Steigenberger, which is located in Europacity (Berlin).
The Hotel will have seven floors and 339 rooms in total.
