Holcim Hungaria is to start decommissioning works of its cement production plant in Labatlan soon. The two-year process affects over 100 buildings, structures and machinery of the plant, with the decommissioning works to be carried out by Alcufer.

Austrian construction materials maker Asamer, whose main products are gravel and concrete, is to undergo restructuring in November 2013, whereby the majority of its foreign business could be outsourced into a type of bad bank, and parts of which will be successively utilised.

New Sandvik Construction distributor in Myanmar
Sandvik has appointed MSP as its new distributor for quarrying and construction products in Myanmar.
The agreement between the two companies has been signed and it will provide Sandvik customers in Myanmar with Sandvik crushing, screening, drilling and other associated equipment, but also aftermarket support in partnership with MSP’s extensive network and industry expertise.
Lafarge and Solidia Technologies work to reduce the environmental footprint of pre-cast concrete manufacturing
Lafarge has signed a partnership agreement with the US start-up Solidia Technologies to industrialise an innovative technology that could reduce the environmental footprint of pre-cast concrete.
The technology allows lower CO2 emissions in the cement production process, and involves the capture of CO2 in precast concrete manufacturing.
Overall, CO2 emissions could be reduced by up to 70%.
Switzerland: cement deliveries increase 3.4%, Q3 2013
The Swiss cement industry saw deliveries in Switzerland increase by 3.4% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2013.
This increase was due to the growing needs of building sites, and in the first nine months of 2013 there was a 2.7% increase in cement deliveries. Cemsuisse expects 2013 to surpass 2012 in terms of cement deliveries.

Bell loaders for Holme Sand & Ballast
Aggregates company Holme Sand & Ballast says it has increased productivity by 10% since purchasing two new wheeled loaders from Bell Equipment.
The County Hampshire, England-based company took delivery of the L26206E wheeled loaders to operate in its Masters Quarry, near Wareham, County Dorset. The machines load raw sand into the plant and blend and stockpile the processed aggregate to produce high quality, engineered silica sand for the construction, horticultural, equine and industrial sectors.
The hydraulic breaker turns 50
Atlas Copco Construction Tools, Essen, Germany, has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the hydraulic breaker, a concept for which German firm Krupp Berco Bautechnik, acquired by Atlas Copco in 2002, was a pioneer. The German firm developed a rig-mounted hydraulic breaker and took out a patent in 1963. It says its first machine, the HM 400, attracted huge interest at the Hannover fair in 1967 and more than 2,000 units were sold.

World-renowned Argentine artist Adrián Villar Rojas sculpted a life-size elephant using 1.5tonnes of CEMEX Portland cement for the centerpiece of a new exhibition at the inaugural opening of the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in Kensington Gardens, London.
Virtually filling the entrance to the gallery, the impressive creation is over 370cm high, 225cm wide, extends 520cm from trunk to tail, and carries a beam measuring 1,450cm in length.
