The Mineral Products Association (MPA), the trade association for the UK quarrying and mineral products industry, is to host a Summit to discuss public safety around disused quarries in Great Britain. These sites range from very old workings, sites that have been returned into private ownership after operations have ceased or have been restored for use as a public amenity or nature reserve. Breedon revenues increase as “some confidence returns”
Breedon Aggregates, the UK’s largest independent aggregates business, has released its unaudited interim results for the six months ended 30 June, 2013. Dutch construction company Ballast Nedam has sold a 100% stake in its Societé d'Exploitation des Carrières d'Yvoir sandstone quarry to Belgian company Group De Cloedt. This is part of its strategy to boost its financial position. The quarry produces 600,000tonnes of sandstone annually.
CRH announces chief executive designate
Albert Manifold will assume the role of group chief executive on 1 January 2014, following the retirement of the current chief executive, Myles Lee, after 32 years with the group. Manifold, an accountant and MBA, is aged 50. He has been a board member and CRH chief operating officer since January 2009. Plans approved to extend stone quarry in Kent, England
Final approval has been granted by Eric Pickles, Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for a stone quarry in 80 acres of ancient woodland in County Kent, southern England. The quarry is run by the Gallagher Group. The development of Oaken Wood will be an extension of the existing Hermitage quarry site, which produces Kentish ragstone for building stone and aggregate.
