NSSGA hopes new streamlined Environmental Policy Act Ruling means less red tape for US aggregates businesses

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has applauded the final National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) ruling released by the White House's Council on Environmental Quality.

According to NSSGA president of government and regulatory affairs Michele Stanley: “NSSGA applauds the Administration for releasing the final rule that will bring much needed modernisation and clarity to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, while still maintaining strong environmental protections."

US Department of Labor sets up $400,000 in grants for better aggregates and mining safety

The US Department of Labor (USDoL) has made up to $400,000 available through its Brookwood-Sago grant programme to prevent unsafe working conditions in and around US quarries and mines.

The grants – administered by the department's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) – will focus on training and training materials in areas such as reducing vehicle collisions, increasing seat belt use and improving belt conveyor safety.

Colombian aggregates giant Cementos Argos delivers 23,000 face masks and biosecurity kits

Cementos Argos has started the delivery of 23,000 face masks to its construction and hardware customers around Colombia to maintain biosafety conditions in the sector.

The cement company will also provide its large business clients with biosecurity kits made up of thermometers, floor charts to reinforce physical distance measurements and a digital application that monitors the health conditions of those in charge of the points of sale.

Mexican building materials giant CEMEX says its efforts to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by locking down much of its facility footprint was a key factor behind a Q2 2020 sales dip of 10% and an EBITDA fall of 6% to US$554 million.

Aggregates equipment manufacturer Sandvik strengthens North American presence with acquisition of Allied Construction Products

Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology has acquired Allied Construction Products to establish an enhanced sales, service and support platform in North America.

Sandvik says the acquisition will also expand its existing dealer network into new regions and to reach new customers with a broader product offering.

Both parties have had a strategic partnership since 2003, with Allied being the US distributor for Rammer products.

Granite subsidiary to rehabilitate I-94 in Illinois

Granite subsidiary Kenny Construction Company has been chosen by the Illinois Department of Transportation to rehabilitate sections of Interstate 94 (I-94) at Montrose Avenue in Cook County.

Granite says the project will replace the superstructure and rehabilitate the substructure of I-94 at Montrose Avenue including improvements to drainage and safety with new roadway and under-deck lighting.
