Boral partners with university on development of low carbon concrete

Construction materials supplier Boral has formed a five-year partnership with the University of Technology Sydney to accelerate the product innovation, research, development and commercialisation of low carbon concrete.

The partnership has resulted in the establishment of the UTS Boral Centre for Sustainable Building at UTS Tech Lab, bringing academia and industry together to research and innovate sustainable building technologies.

NSSGA supports Water Resources Development Act 2020

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has expressed support for the successful mark-up of the Water Resources Development Act 2020 (WRDA).

In a statement issued online, NSSGA vice president of government and regulatory affairs Michele Stanley says: “We appreciate the efforts of Transportation & Infrastructure Committee chairman DeFazio, ranking member Graves, water subcommittee chairman Napolitano, ranking member Westerman and their staffs for introducing and passing the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 (WRDA).

Aggregates group Summit Materials pushes revenue up by 4% in Q2 2020

Summit Materials, which describes itself as "a vertically integrated construction materials company,"grew its net revenue by 4.1% year-on-year to $575.2 million in the second quarter of 2020.

Aggregates volumes increased 2.6% during the same period and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) increased 14.1% to $160.2 million.

New permit rules could change the way aggregate and gravel mining companies work

Mining permits would be automatically approved if municipalities delay making a decision for longer than 180 days, says a report out this week on Fox17online.com.

A bill introduced to the Michigan state senate in 2019 could limit the ability that local municipalities currently have to deny permits to proposed mining and aggregates operations.

According to the Fox17online report: "Supporters of Senate Bill 431, sponsored by Senator Adam Hollier, say it will drive down construction costs in Michigan.

Rescheduled steinexpo gets strong exhibitor support

The organisers of steinexpo, which has been rescheduled from this year to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, say that around 85% of exhibitors registered for the 2020 event have already indicated they will participate next year.
