Terex Washing Systems’ new AggreSand officially launched
Terex Washing Systems has officially launched its new AggreSand with a demonstration at an Irish quarry.
The innovative washing system, which combines aggregate washing and screening with sand processing on a modular chassis, was unveiled at Dowling Quarries’ operation near Abbeyleix, County Laois, where the company also produces concrete.
The new AggreSand, which uses TWS components, is the latest addition to the company’s product portfolio, and has been produced extensive research.
Sweden’s Cementa and university test use of algae to reduce carbon emissions
Swedish cement company Cementa is collaborating with Linnaeus University (Linnéuniversitetet) in Småland in a research project to use algae to reduce the CO2 emissions from cement production.
This is one of several methods that Cementa is exploring to reduce its CO2 emissions and to reach is target of zero CO2 emissions by 2030. Lafarge adds RFID chips to its concrete
French construction materials group Lafarge is adding RFID chips to its concrete in the mixing stage to supply clients with traceability and data storage services throughout the concrete's life cycle.
The special concrete is already being used in the D2 tower in La Défense, Paris, with a chip for every 2m³ of concrete, but the quantity of chips can be adapted to meet a client's needs.

Africa’s richest man to invest $400mn to build Kenyan cement plant
Africa’s richest man, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has said he will invest $400 million to build a cement plant in Kenya., the Daily Nation has reported.
Dangote said that his Lagos-listed cement company, Dangote Cement, would start construction of a 2 million tonne-capacity cement factory within the next few months.
Metso's crushing/screening system for Monier's Papua New Guinea quarry
Monier Limited is upgrading capacity at its Nebiri quarry in Papua New Guinea to meet long term growth targets through a strategic partnership with Metso. The upgrade will include the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of a Metso crushing and screening system with the resulting order, valued at €10.5 million, being included in Metso Mining and Construction's Q3 2013 orders received.
Switzerland’s construction product law amended to reflect EU
Switzerland has amended its construction product regulations to reflect change in EU law, to avoid any barriers to trade.
In 2011 Switzerland exported CHF 2.4 billion (€1.94 billion) of construction products to the EU, 81% of the sector's exports, and imported CHF 5.3 billion of construction products from the EU, 90% of the sector's imports.
Metso's latest innovation for changing liners in Vertimill mills
Metso has developed a solution to ease the maintenance of Vertimill grinding mills, the innovative Vertimill liner lifting fixture, which speeds up the changing of the mill liners and makes it safer.

Buzzards now king of the UK quarries
Quarry sites throughout the UK are great places for birds of prey the latest RSPB and Cemex UK study has shown.
Teaming up with building materials company Cemex in its national partnership, the RSPB asked quarry managers to complete a survey of the birds of prey they see at their sites.
Although the two most commonly reported species have not changed since the previous survey, buzzards have overtaken kestrels to take top spot. Both were reported at more than half the sites. Red kite and hobby sighting

An expansion worth €3 million at Condron Concrete Works will generate 20 new jobs in Tullamore in Ireland.
The recruitment is expected to begin immediately. A plastic pipe manufacturing facility will be developed by the concrete pipes and roof tiles supplier with the cited investment.
University of Nottingham awards laboratory contract
The University of Nottingham, central England, has awarded a contract for the construction of a new laboratory to a team consisting of Gleeds, the project manager; contractor Morgan Sindall, Aecom, WSP, Fairhursts and Northcroft.
The GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory of Sustainable Chemistry will be the first carbon neutral laboratory in the UK, with Morgan Sindall expecting the laboratory to become carbon neutral after 25 years of operation.

ContiTech acquires Metso’s industrial conveyor belt operations
The ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group, Northeim, Hanover, Germany, is strengthening its conveyor belts business for industrial applications with the acquisition of Metso´s industrial conveyor belt operations based in Helsinki, Finland.
Both sides have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Transfer of the business is scheduled for Q4 2013.

Lafarge sells its cement operations in Honduras
Lafarge has sold its cement operations in Honduras to Cementos Argos for a total enterprise value of €435 million (€232 million for the share of Lafarge, which owns 53.3% of its Honduran subsidiary, Lafarge Cementos SA de CV)
This enterprise value represents a 2012 EBITDA multiple of 8.6.
Sold assets comprise an integrated cement plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes and a grinding station with a 0.3 million tonnes capacity.
This transaction is subject to relevant regulatory approvals.
