Inaugural Plantworx deemed a success despite the weather

The first Plantworx equipment exhibition, which was held in Stoneleigh, near Coventry, UK, from 14–16 May, had a total attendance of 11,696 people. The number of unique visitors came to 9,445 people. Holcim Srbija on Serbia opens new concrete factory

Construction and building materials company Holcim Srbija says it has opened its new concrete factory in Dobanovci, Serbia. Holcim Srbija invested €2 million in the new plant, and will invest a further €4 million by the end of 2013. The factory's capacity will be 100,000tonnes per annum, the majority of which will be launched on the domestic market. In the last decade, the company has invested €131 million in the Serbian market.

Nature After Minerals working within a new European partnership project

Miller Scoops new orders at Plantworx Show

Cramlington, north-east England-based Miller Groundbreaking won orders of the value of £200,000 (€237,000) after attending the inaugural UK plant exhibition Plantworx 2013 at Stoneleigh Park, County Warwickshire, England. Cemex’s 82.6% April substitution rate for alternative fuels in Germany

Cemex's strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions has seen its plants in Germany achieve a substitution rate for alternative fuels of 82.6% in April 2013. During the month, the firm's Kollenback plant substituted the use of 12,000tonnes of coal for alternative fuels, such as industrial, agricultural and municipal waste. Italcementi extends five-year bond by €150mn

Italian cement manufacturer Italcementi has reopened the five-year senior bond originally launched on 21 February 2013. While the bond was originally valued at €350 million this has now been extended by an additional €150 million. The issue is being managed by UniCredit, Natixis, BNP Paribas, Banca IMI and Credit Agricole CIB.

Greece’s Titan Cement revenues rise yet higher losses in Q1 2013

In the first quarter of 2013, Titan Cement of Greece posted a 19% rise in its revenues, to €51 million in comparison with the corresponding period in 2012. Titan also posted an EBITDA loss of €2 million from €12 million profits as well as a net loss of €17 million from €0.2 million profits. At group level, its revenues rose by 8%, to €243 million while its EBITDA dropped by 29%, to €24 million compared with the same period last year.

FLSmidth to build Equatorial Guinea cement factory

Danish group FLSmidth has been awarded a contract for the construction of a cement factory in Akoga, Equatorial Guinea. The order from Grupo Abayak Akoga Cemento is valued at just over DKK 500mn (€67 million). Capacity of the plant, which is scheduled to be taken into operation by 2016, will be 3,000tonnes of cement per day.
