11th steinexpo to be staged 14-17 April 2021

The steinexpo exhibition in Germany will now take place from the 14th to 17th April 2021. The 11th international demonstration trade fair for the raw materials and building materials industry will be staged, as usual, in the MHI stone quarry in Nieder-Ofleiden. The previously scheduled 26-29 August 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FLSmidth to supply OK Raw Mill to CalPortland's California plant

FLSmidth is supplying an OK Raw Mill to the CalPortland Mojave plant in California. The new mill has been designed to help increase reliability and efficiency at the aggregates and building materials group's site, says FLSmidth.

The mill shares the same gearbox as FLSmidth's OK Cement Mill, which was installed at the plant in 2004.

New Jersey quarry faces mid-August shut-down over monitoring wells dispute

Ringwood Borough Council, in Passaic County, New Jersey, has told Braen Stone’s Van Orden Sand & Gravel quarry that it has until mid-August to uphold the terms of its quarry license, or face shut-down.

According to a story on the www.northjersey.com website: "Borough officials said the West Brook Road rock quarry is lacking perimeter monitoring wells needed to safeguard residential wells that could be affected by the quarry's steady expansion.

LafargeHolcim is at the top of  the 101 construction materials companies analysed by Sustainalytics, a leading global provider of ESG (environmental, social and governance risks) and corporate governance research and ratings to investors.

Granite lands major US Air Force contract in Alaska

Granite has been chosen by the US Air Force to work on a $350 million "Interior Alaska Paving Multiple Award Task Order Contract."

Granite says the contract is comprised of task orders ranging from $500 to $10 million, for one base year plus six optional years through to 2027.

Task order proposals will be submitted for various paving projects for roads, parking lots, airfields, and other miscellaneous paving requirements on Interior Alaska military installations.

Sandvik unveils new Guide Adapter to reduce hole deviation

Sandvik Rock Tools has launched a new "Guide Adapter" with the aim of helping bench drilling Top Hammer customers reduce hole deviation by up to 50%.

According to Sandvik, significant hole deviation (>8%) can pose problems for many bench drilling companies that operate in challenging ground conditions such as bad and soft rock, as well as deep overburden.

This often results in reduced productivity, safety risks and increased tool wear, the company adds.

Cemex funds development of PPE for health workers in Houston

The Cemex Foundation has pledged $100,000 to help TX/RX Labs develop personal protective equipment (PPE) for up to 20,000 medical staff and first responders in Houston.

Cemex's philanthropic arm says the grant will help the non-profit organisation develop face masks, face shields and intubation boxes for police, firefighters and other public servants in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
